I am floating between this life and the next. I no longer feel the pain from my shift. I guess this is what it is like to die. It isn't as scary as I thought it would be.
There is a white light at the end of the tunnel, and someone is waiting there for me. My feet hit the ground, and I begin to walk toward the light. As I get closer to the light, the person waiting for me comes into focus.
"Mom," I say as I run in her direction, but I am stopped just before I can reach her.
It feels like there is an invisible thread pulling me back. I look behind me and see nothing but darkness. The pull of the thread becomes stronger, and I fight against it. I don't want to go back.
I turn and reach out for my mother. She looks like she did when I was younger. Her long, dark hair is hanging in perfect ringlets down her back. Her green eyes are bright and full of life. Her skin is sun-kissed, and she is no longer skin and bones. She looks healthy and happy.
