CHAPTER 56 Last Night

  KAT

It is our last night in the farmhouse. Everything is packed up, and the movers come tomorrow. Dad and I are camped out in the living in sleeping bags surrounded by boxes. We are both lying on the floor staring at the ceiling; neither one of us knows what to say.

The farm was bought by a buyer to preferred to remain anonymous. I am almost positive it was Luke, but I don't have any proof, and I am not sure why I care. I plan to stick to the rejection even though it causes me daily pain. David has assured me that the pain will lessen over time, but it cannot come fast enough.

"Are you going to miss this place?" Dad's voice fills the silence.

"No," I answer a little too quickly. We both know it is a lie. I have grown fond of this farm and this house. I have made more memories in the house than I ever did in New York.

"I don't believe you," My father laughs. "I know you love this place."

I sigh loudly. "I do love this place, but it is time for me to move on."
