LUKE
My heart breaks as I watch some of the oldest families in our pack's history turn and walk away from me. I thought filling my father's shoes would be an easy task, but I have been proven wrong at every turn.
Despite my father's many faults, he was still beloved by the pack. Those who followed him followed him blindly, and it is clear that they will not extend the same courtesy to me.
Kat grabs my hand and squeezes it tightly. I know she is trying to comfort me, but it isn't helping. I am watching everything my family built over centuries fall apart in front of me.
"Alpha," Hector interrupts my thoughts. I turn to him, but I don't respond. "I know you haven't asked for my opinion, but I think this is long overdue."
"Is that so?" I ask.
"Yes, Alpha," he swallows hard before continuing. "The world has no place for those who can't accept humans in it."
