CHAPTER 80 Scared

  LUKE

For the first time in my life, I feel awkward being naked. I don't know if it is the cool night air or the sight of Hector cradling his dead mate that is causing the goosebumps on my skin.

I look down at my body, and I am soaked in blood. Some of it is mine and some is Hector's mate, but the most of it is Jeff's.

Shifting my weight from one foot to the other, I don't know what to do next. I cannot relate to what Hector is feeling. We are told that losing your fated mate is painful. It is so painful, in fact, that many wolves never recover. They die shortly after their mates for unknown reasons, but the belief is it is death by a broken heart.

I decide to sit on the ground with Hector and wait. It is the very least I can do. Because of his mate, mine is safe.

Hector's mate is slowly turning back into her human form. After death, the transformation is slow and ugly, but Hector does not take his eyes off his mate.
