CHAPTER 48

  Alec's POV

My body tensed, my breath shallow and quick. The full moon hung high in the sky, casting a silver light across the forest clearing. I could feel the weight of it, the pull of my wolf instincts. The transformation had already begun; my bones ached, muscles shifting beneath my skin, fur sprouting in a dark wave along my spine. The process was always painful, but tonight, it was more than that. It was a challenge.

Across from me stood Kane, my rival and, perhaps more importantly, my equal. The same transformation had already taken hold of him, and the two wolves faced each other, eyes glowing amber in the moonlight. A low growl rumbled from Kane's throat, deep and menacing, a sound that sent a thrill through me. It was a sound of warning, a promise of danger. This wasn't just any fight. This was a fight for dominance, a fight to claim the title of Alpha, a fight that could end in death.
