CHAPTER 160

  Olivia's POV

The drive downtown was quieter than before, the earlier playfulness replaced by something heavier. I watched the city blur past, wondering when things had gotten so complicated.

"You're thinking too loud," Christopher said, breaking the silence.

"Just wondering how many other girls you've brought up there."

"None." He kept his eyes on the road. "Contrary to what you might think, I don't make a habit of playing tourist with my arrangements."

  "Then why me?"

He parked the car instead of answering. "We're here."

Battery Park sprawled before us, a green oasis amid the concrete jungle. The waterfront breeze carried the scent of hot dogs and pretzels from nearby vendors.

"Oh my god, food!" I made a beeline for the nearest cart. "I'm starving."

"I could've taken you somewhere nice-"

"Nope. Street food is mandatory for the authentic New York experience." I ordered two hot dogs. "Want one?"

  "I'll pass."
