CHAPTER 14: "No Money? Then..."

  Seeing Chloe's overjoyed expression left me with mixed feelings.

  On one hand, I didn't want Daniel to lose everything. On the other, I didn't want Lucas to lose either. But the casino is like a battlefield—where there are winners, there are always losers.

  It suddenly dawned on me that sitting here tonight was a mistake.

  Before I could reveal my hand, Daniel slammed his cards on the table, unable to contain his smugness. Gasps echoed from the onlookers.

  "Nine points! What incredible luck!" someone exclaimed.

  "Dumb luck," Natalie muttered, slouching in her chair with irritation.

  "Did he hack the system or something?" Zachary grumbled, equally disgruntled.

  At that moment, I lost all courage to reveal my cards.

  "Go ahead," Lucas said, patting my shoulder gently, his tone calm and reassuring.
