CHAPTER 27: Heartbeats Out of Sync in Public

As I pushed open the door, Chloe's photo immediately came into view.

A buzzing sound filled my head, and the ringing of my phone faded into the background. Like a lost soul, I stumbled inside.

On the living room wall above the sofa hung an oversized wedding photo of Chloe and Daniel. It dominated the entire wall. In the picture, Chloe had her arms wrapped around Daniel's neck, smiling radiantly. To me, it was a glaring, mocking display.

This photo wasn't recent—Daniel's hair was noticeably longer than it was now. He had cut it at least two or three months ago.

Thinking back to the suspicious setup in the study, a bold realization struck me, and my heartbeat went completely out of rhythm.

The layout of this apartment was identical to Daniel's. Familiar with every detail, I instinctively found my way to the study and pushed the door open.

Ha! What a room. Large enough to host a party.
