Before coming here, I had mentally prepared myself for everything.
Since I had come this far, there was no reason to retreat.
Following my instincts, I knocked on the door to the left. It was opened by the same woman I'd seen with Lucas the other day.
"Who are you looking for?" Her voice was as youthful as her appearance.
Her belly was visibly more than five months along, meaning she had been pregnant longer than I had known Lucas. If this was about who came first, I was the one who never should have existed.
I had no right to show my pain or anger in front of her, much less question or accuse her. All I wanted was the truth.
"Hello, I'm Mr. Reid's assistant. Since I've had experience with childbirth, he specifically asked me to come talk to you."
She looked surprised. "Which Mr. Reid?"
I froze.
How many Mr. Reids could there be?
"Lucas Reid, of course!" I replied, certain I hadn't mistaken her for someone else.
