I immediately became fully awake!
Lucas's side profile was hidden in the dim light. I couldn't see his expression, but I felt like he was completely still, as if frozen in place, like a statue. This stillness, for some reason, made my heart ache.
Fate is toying with me, but it's toying with him too, isn't it?
I sat up, feeling like a sinner, my eyes filled with guilt as I stared at his side profile.
"I'm sorry," I whispered.
He put down the report in his hand, turned his head, and suddenly smiled at me as if nothing had happened.
"Why are you saying sorry?"
The more he acted like this, the sadder I became.
"I'm not the one who can give you a complete family with both sons and daughters, so you might have chosen the wrong person."
"Bullshit!" he cursed, then, in a domineering manner, pulled me into his arms.
I had already been upset all day and was exhausted, so I just leaned on his shoulder, completely compliant.
