  Salvatore smiled and tapped the ash off his cigarette into the fire.

  "Well, he came to save you alone. He gave you land to use. Those actions show that he cares about you."

  But I thought differently. I remembered what Lucas had said—that even if Salvatore hadn't used me as leverage, he would have still given me the land.

  "You're building a tomb there to bring down the Zhuiguang Valley, aren't you?" I asked, my tone accusatory.

  Salvatore smiled coldly. "If I wanted to bring down the Zhuiguang Valley, I could have done it much more directly."

  I was stunned, staring at him.

  He glanced at me, a corner of his mouth curling up. "What, you don't believe I have the ability to do that?"

  I did believe him, but what shocked me was that he had other motives.

  "Then why did you have to build a tomb there? What are you really trying to do?"
