Riley and I were both stunned. Without wasting any time, we quickly searched every room.
Tessa was sitting on the floor, crying like a child.
"I've looked everywhere. I even checked under the bed. Lily's gone… she's just gone."
I glanced outside, where the sky was just beginning to brighten.
"When did Xander leave?" I asked.
Tessa shook her head numbly. "I don't know either."
It wasn't strange for a grown man like Xander to go missing, but for Lily, a little girl who couldn't even walk yet, she had to have been carried away.
There were only two possibilities now: one, Xander had forgotten to lock the door, and someone had snuck in and taken the child; or two, Xander had taken her himself.
The thought made my heart race with unease.
I glanced at Riley, and she met my gaze. It seemed she had also come to the same conclusion.
Tessa was still crying, caught in the grief of her missing child, and she probably hadn't thought of these possibilities.
