CHAPTER 66 Not Running

  Macy POV

The morning air hits my face as I fling open the palace door. The sun has yet to rise, but the sky is a pale shade of pink. I rest my hands on my knees, trying to catch my breath.

'If you leave, Roland wins,' my creature's voice whispers in my mind.

I don't respond to her. I am not sure I want to admit that she is a part of me, but she is right. I can't let Roland win. Not even in death. I am not running away. Not this time.

I square my shoulders and turn on my heels, shutting the door behind me. Cassian is waiting for me by the staircase. "I am going to bed," he grunts. "I suggest you do the same."

"We need to talk about this," I tell him.

"There is nothing to say," he replies. "He was a terrible old man, and you probably did the realm a favor."

I remain steadfast. I have hurt Cassian deeply since coming to this realm. He must trust me if this war is to be favorable.
