CHAPTER 26 Unraveling the Web

  The sky had begun to darken outside Edmund's estate, an ominous prelude to the storm that was about to break. Angela stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows in the living room, staring at the garden that stretched out below. The once peaceful estate now felt like a prison, its walls closing in on her. She hadn't seen Edmund since their late-night encounter, but she could still feel his touch, his possessiveness seared into her skin.

  Her thoughts were interrupted by the sound of footsteps approaching from behind. She turned to see Mark Reynolds standing at the entrance, his face set in a grim expression. The usually calm and collected man seemed on edge, his jaw tight as if he were bracing for something.

  "Angela," he said softly, his voice betraying the urgency beneath his calm facade. "I need to speak with you. It's important."
