Chapter 4

Although I'm not sure how these two ended up together, at least for now, Melody is still my darling.

This pent-up frustration, I just can't swallow it.

"Melody, do you understand that this is cheating within our marriage?"

I kept my eyes fixed on her as I spoke, but she couldn't bring herself to meet my gaze.

At that moment, Dashiell pulled her into his arms, playing the role of a knight in shining armor.

"What's all this talk about cheating? You're just upset because you're not getting enough money, aren't you?"

"Name your price. I've got cash to burn!"

I looked at this spoiled rich kid with his puffy face as if he were some kind of clown.

"I'm sorry, but I've changed my mind. If you take Melody away today, losing a leg will be the least of your worries."

"In less than an hour, I'll make sure you lose everything you own."

As soon as I finished speaking, Melody eagerly stepped forward.

"Zhou, stop trying to scare people. Who do you think you are, claiming you can make Dashiell lose everything?"

"We've been married for so long, how come I never knew you were so capable?"

Melody's words sent the crowd into fits of laughter."I've already said it before, you get the darling you deserve based on your capabilities. With a useless bum like Ethan who's both crippled and broke, it's only a matter of time before his darling runs off with someone else."

"When it comes to capabilities, our Dashiell is the one to watch. He's got that big spender energy and a rock-solid background to boot."

The people around kept kissing Dashiell's ass, but not a single soul stood up to defend me.

Ignoring their mockery, I prepared to leave.

Before I could make it out the door, a pair of large hands pressed down on my shoulders.

"Trying to leave? Did I give you permission?"

Dashiell looked at me with a smirk, his eyes brimming with contempt.

"Ethan, I'm giving you two choices today. Either take the money, divorce, and get lost, or... I'll cripple your other leg too."

Melody, nestled in Dashiell's arms, playfully whined, "Dashiell, that's too brutal. You're scaring me."

"Alright then, how about this: crawl between my legs or take the money and divorce."

"It's one or the other, Ethan. Think it through carefully."

Holding back my rage, I slowly spoke up.

"I can divorce Melody, and I don't need a single cent, but..."I spoke halfway through my sentence before suddenly drawing out the last word.

"You have to let me call my dad first, because I can't make the decision about divorce on my own."

After hearing what I said, Dashiell doubled over laughing.

"Did I hear that right? A person in their thirties still needs daddy's permission to get divorced?"

"What's next, you need your dad to breastfeed you too?"

Melody let out a cold snort. "Dashiell, let him make the call. He's been a fatherless bastard since birth. I'd love to see where he finds a dad to answer the phone."

"Fine, but don't regret it after I make this call."

Melody looked smug. "Whoever regrets it is a little bitch."

She was about to continue, but I quickly waved my hand to cut her off.

"Alright, that's all I needed to hear from you."

With that, I immediately pulled out my phone and dialed my father's number.

"Dad, it's Ethan."

Hearing my voice, the person on the other end spoke in a gentle tone,

"Ethan, this is your Uncle Blackwood. The old man is still in a meeting. Is there something I can help you with?"

"Uncle Blackwood, I have a favor to ask you. After that, I gave a brief rundown of Melody's affair and how Dashiell had shown up at my door demanding a divorce.

As soon as I finished speaking, I heard the sound of china shattering on the other end of the line.
