1. Burning Empires
"How many people will be dying today? " Nicholas asked his 14-year-old twin sister who is currently sitting on a luxurious chair with a grin on her face while he is sitting on the sofa with a gun.
They weren't supposed to be here yet they were sneaked into a stranger's office.
"You are asking about people and here I am going to burn an empire down my dearest brother, " Niko replied to her twin brother with a smirk. Nicholas rolled his eyes feeling annoyed to stay up at midnight just so she could play her chess.
They couldn't talk more since the door of the office opened revealing two men in suits.
Do you know how bad life can fuck you? Well until you can't walk or breathe anymore and choke on your tears. Nathaniel thought as he walked into his office with his right-hand man Ronan following him closely behind. Nathaniel paused when his gaze landed on a little girl sitting on his chair with her arms crossed and a devilish smile on her lips. The first thought that came into his mind is that her smile reminds him of his brutal grandfather and second how the fuck this kid got into his office without getting caught.
"Welcome and you are late, " Niko said to Nathaniel calmly like she didn't just break into someone's private office without their knowledge. And not just someone's but Nathaniel king, the most powerful man in the country.
"This is my property, " Nathaniel said to her annoyed. "How did you get in? " He added taking steps closer only to pause as a bullet passed letting a blood trail on the side of his neck. Only then did Nathaniel notice a boy sitting casually on the sofa with a gun in his hands. Nathaniel's face hardened and he wondered who gave these little kids a gun.
"Stand in your place and stay away from her, " Nicolas warned him. His protective nature didn't get missed by both men.
"You look old enough to know that killing is a crime, " Nathaniel shot him a threatening gaze to which Nicolas didn't show an inch of emotion.
"Since when do criminals consider such a thing such a crime, " Nicolas said causing the other two men to clench their fists. They couldn't believe that kids of such age know their secret when no one else doesn't know.
"Careful child, you can die right here, " Ronan glared at Nicolas.
"Let's see then who is faster, " Nicolas offered so calmly and confidently that it made Ronan question his shooting skills. Niko smiled at the scene in front of her amused, her fingers playing with the gun in the drawer of Nate's desk. She wouldn't let her brother die. Of course, Nate and Ronan don't know it yet.
Ronan decided to handle the situation but Nathaniel stopped him instantly. Ronan isn't pleased by the turn of today's events but he did as ordered by his boss. Nathaniel focuses back on the girl and observes her finding no fear in her body language he grits his teeth. People usually don't even dare to look at his face and here a child is talking to him without breaking eye contact.
"Chill Daddy, we just came to talk, " Niko said grinning knowing he was angry. Nathaniel glares at her which doesn't falter Niko's amusement.
"Watch your mouth kid and how did you get in? " Nathaniel asked her.
"Your guards are dumb, ain't my fault, " Niko said with a shrug. That made Nathaniel more furious but he wouldn't hurt the kid. Not yet at least he thought.
"Who are your patents? I will send you back, " Nate asked her calmly.
"You still don't get it, Daddy we came to see you, " Niko said sarcastically.
That made both Nathaniel and Ronan pause in the calculations of catching those kids in their heads. Nate didn't believe her at all but he had to admit she looked kind of similar to him.
"In case you are implying I am your father then that's a lie. I don't have any kids, " Nate said.
"The kids that you don't know existed, then, " Niko chuckled.
"Look kid don't play games with me, " Nate said.
"You turned out more stubborn than I thought Daddy. No worries you can do a DNA test, " she offered.
"Sure, " Nate agreed knowing he won't ever have kids no matter how many women he fucked for fun. But just like him, Niko is confident, actually more confident than Nate and he hates that fact.
Nate asked Ronan to call his doctor so he could take blood samples and once it's done Niko joined her twin brother.
"Then our business is concluded. I will see you after a week right here. " Niko said.
Nate was going to capture them but sounds outside of his mansion stopped him. Ronan soon received a call telling them they were attacked. Nate glances back at the office only to find both of the kids gone. He glared at the office and proceeded to head out to get rid of the attackers.
"Find out how those kids got in, " Nate ordered his guard.
"Sir, the footage of the camera is missing and the man guarding it is dead, " One of his men informed him causing Nate to look annoyed.
I don't know if those kids killed them or not, but they are smart. Nate thought. Too smart for his liking.
Till the morning Nate and Ronan focused on cleaning the bloody mess. That sudden attack and those kids turned his day upside-down. Nate ran his fingers through his hair feeling exhausted.
His thought wanders back to the kids he saw earlier who managed to catch his attention. Nate is sure he can't have kids cause he is infertile but that doesn't stop him from thinking about why they thought he might be their father.
"No she was too confident so who told her such a thing, " Nate muttered to himself.
"Don't worry about it, it's not like you can have a child, " Ronan assured him.
Nate sighs and nods at his best friend. Ronan had been with him for years and knew his secret well. But still, it bothered Nate.
"Tell the doctor to give the results as soon as possible, " Nate ordered.
"Do you seriously think they are your kids? I mean that would be hilarious but still, " Ronan asked with a smirk. Nate rolled his eyes not amused. He had other things to take care of like his enemies. Nate groan.
"It's not like that but they look a little bit like me and most of their features are like my grandfather. They can be children of my dead brother too so I just need to consider, " Nate explained his friend. Ronan narrowed his eyes in disbelief and not believing Nate but he didn't say it out loud.
"Well then let's wait for the report, " Ronan said. Nate leaned back on his chair and merely nodded thinking about the twins.
After a few more days, Nate sits in his office with a report on his desk. Not wanting to wait any longer he opened the results only to read them again and again. Ronan looked at him confused. Nate sighed and slammed his fist on the table not believing what he was seeing.
"Darn it. " Nate said in disbelief.
Sensing his discomfort Ronan read the result out loud with his face shocked.
"Result is positive. They are indeed your kids, " Ronan said in disbelief. Nate couldn't believe the truth. He was so sure that he was infertile or that's what the report said.
Unless he was lied. Unless his mother lied to him but why? She loved him or that's what Nate thought.
"Why would they lie to me? " Nate asked no one in particular.
But he has more things to be concerned about, like his kids. Or the other kids he didn't know existed while he thought he couldn't have a child.
"Ronan, find twins as soon as possible, " Nate ordered. Ronan nodded and left Nate alone.
Ronan ordered his man and sighed in disbelief. How is it possible? And why did they come out now? I need to keep an eye out until I find more. Ronan thought. His face darkened.
Meanwhile, Nathaniel groaned in his office as he thought about the twins. He can't accept the truth yet.
I need to check with the doctor again for the DNA results and my condition too. And I need to see her soon. Nate thought.
He pulled out his phone and called a familiar number. Once the person picked up he ordered.
"Keep an eye on her and report me every single thing. "
"What happened? Is something wrong? " The person asked.
"I will tell you later. Just do as I say. " Nate replied and cut off the call before the person could ask anything.
His life turned into an utter mess and he doesn't even know how to solve it.
