[Chapter 232: Jet Li]
Towards evening, Linton received a call from Klinsmann, and they finally reached an agreement on the copyright transfer deal with Golden Harvest Films.
Golden Harvest sold the North American rights to 20 films from their target list to Linton Films for $250,000 each, excluding adaptation and sequel rights, totaling $5 million.
During the call, Klinsmann also mentioned another proposal from Raymond.
"Boss, there are 16 movies starring Jackie Chan in their library. They want to sell North American rights to us at a 40% discount, $100,000 per film. Should we buy them?"
"What do you think?"
"The price is so low, it's a no-brainer. We can easily recoup costs by distributing videocassettes. Losing money is impossible. Plus, it would enrich the company's library."
Linton's company was fairly new, and even after buying Miramax Films, their rights library was still sparse. This was the foundation of a film company.
At such a bargain price, it was a sure win, especially considering the future profits from video distribution. After the new millennium, when the DVD format war erupted between Toshiba's HD and Sony's BD, exclusive format fees paid to Hollywood studios skyrocketed.
"Okay, buy them all."
The two parties agreed to formally sign the contract the next morning. Linton delegated full authority to Klinsmann as he could not attend.
The total deal was worth $6.6 million -- a huge windfall for Golden Harvest, almost purely profit. The whole company was thrilled.
Raymond Chow even offered to arrange a nightlife evening for Linton, but Linton declined. He was thoroughly enjoying his time with Vivian Chow and Michelle Reis, his two new companions, and preferred to spend the evening with them.
For Linton Films, such a purchase was a modest outlay. The unit prices were lower than expected, and Linton was confident the films would earn far beyond $6.6 million.
---
That evening they went to Felix Restaurant on the 28th floor of the Peninsula Hotel.
Linton noticed a line of bodyguards brought by Jet Li standing guard by the private room's door. Although Linton had warned he would bring two female companions, Rosamund Kwan surprisingly appeared at the dinner. It was obvious her presence was to open an opportunity for herself.
Linton and Jet Li enjoyed a pleasant dinner conversation. Linton told him he intended to buy North American rights for eight of Jet Li's films and promote them in the U.S. video market to help build his fame, aiming for a transition to North American cinema.
Five of the films' rights were owned by Golden Harvest, with the $250,000 price per film agreed upon.
They agreed to base the copyright transfer price of the other three films on Golden Harvest's pricing, and Klinsmann would finalize the contracts at East Asia Film Company the next day.
---
After dinner, Linton took Vivian Chow and Michelle Reis back to the hotel's presidential suite for more private time.
The wonderful evening continued with beautiful singing.
The supple body of a beautiful twenty-something could be both tender and devastating.
Fortunately, Linton's unique abilities kept him unharmed and even enhanced his power. Vivian Chow and Michelle Reis also benefited greatly.
...
The next morning, the sessions finally stopped, and the three enjoyed a hearty hotel breakfast delivered to their suite.
That morning, Linton had an important task: to visit the jade market for a large infused quartz purchase.
The fame reactor grid on the farm estate was nearly complete. Linton had reached the ninth and final level of the Radiant Core Phase and he figured, after the new year, he should synthesize a Stabilization Serum to endure the upcoming Thunder Trial.
He anticipated that the estate would begin generating ambient resonance energy after the trial -- a natural byproduct of his growing power. To harness it effectively and maintain the estate's secrecy, a containment array needed to be installed.
Its purpose was to gather and compress the energy drifting across the property -- including the faint flow carried away by the nearby river. Even a slight loss could destabilize the system. At his current level, Linton couldn't afford such leakage.
From the constructs inherited through the system, he selected a mid-tier resonance gathering formation -- practical, stable, and sufficient for the scale of his land.
The formation's core material? Infused quartz -- clear or smoky crystals often sold in antique and metaphysical shops. Though not rare, crystals sourced near Hong Kong had unique vibrational properties, making them especially effective for resonance control. The higher the quality, the stronger the compression field.
Over time, he could divide the estate into localized resonance zones -- small pockets for emotionally charged crops, specialty livestock, and storage of influence-rich resources.
Everything nurtured in these zones -- food, animals, water -- would gradually enhance vitality, charisma, and cognitive sharpness. These enhancements would be reserved strictly for his inner circle -- a secret edge shared only with those he trusted most.
One day, his family would live entirely within the estate, surrounded by a subtle field of his energy. Their minds would be clearer, their bodies stronger, and their lifespans far beyond the ordinary.
