Redgold's POV
The walls of my gilded cage whispered secrets I wasn't meant to hear.
I could feel them closing in, thick with unseen forces that hung like a noose around my throat. Every breath I took in this cursed palace felt like an unspoken battle, a war between my mind and my body—one fighting for control, the other dangerously close to surrendering to something far darker.
And he was the reason why.
Kaizer's presence was a storm that threatened to consume me whole. Every time he was near, the air charged with something primal, something that made my body betray me in ways I despised.
But I wouldn't give in.
I couldn't give in.
I clenched my fists, pacing my chamber like a caged beast. The memory of his touch still burned on my skin from the night before, his whispered promises twisting into something I couldn't escape.
Damn him. Damn him for making me feel anything other than hate.
A sharp knock jolted me from my thoughts. Before I could answer, the heavy doors swung open, and there he stood—Kaizer, dark and dangerous, filling the space like he owned the air I breathed.
His eyes locked onto mine, sharp as a blade.
"You're trying too hard to resist me, little fire." His voice was velvet and steel, laced with a cruel amusement that made my heart beat faster.
I refused to look away. "And you're mistaking my resistance for a game. It isn't."
His smirk deepened. "Oh, but it is. And you're playing it so deliciously well."
A slow, predatory step. My breath hitched as the heat between us thickened, invisible chains binding me to the spot.
"I saw the way you trembled last night," he said softly, stepping close enough that I could feel the heat radiating from his body. "You can fight me, Redgold. But you can't fight what's already inside you."
His words slithered into my mind, dangerous and undeniable.
I swallowed hard. "You mean the part of me that wants to rip out your throat?"
His grin was all wicked hunger. "No. The part of you that wants to know what it would feel like to lose control... to be wild... and free."
A shiver ran down my spine.
I hated him. But I hated myself more for the way my body betrayed me at his nearness.
Kaizer tilted his head, watching me with something unreadable in his eyes. Then, as if testing me, he lifted a single finger to touch the back of my neck. As his finger stroked my skin, tracing a path from the back of my neck to my shoulder and across my chest, I felt a wave of warmth spread through me, my heart beating faster with each gentle touch.
I felt both hot and cold. My upper body felt warm and alive while my lower body felt cold and lifeless. I had never experienced this feeling before. My breath hitched—a moment too late to pretend that I felt nothing.
He smirked. He had felt it.
The way my body reacted, even as my mind screamed in defiance.
I snapped. My hand shot up, gripping his wrist in a bruising hold. "I am not yours."
Kaizer's expression darkened, his smirk fading into something far frightening.
"You think you still belong to yourself?" His voice was quiet, almost mocking. "That's cute."
His other hand rose, tilting my chin up until I had no choice but to meet his burning, golden gaze.
And for the first time, I saw something beneath the arrogance.
Something raw.
Something undeniably drawn to me, just as much as I was to him. But before I could understand it, the moment was shattered. A loud crash echoed from the corridor.
Kaizer's head snapped toward the door, his entire posture shifting from predator to warrior instantly. Something was happening.
Something big.
And whatever it was—it would change everything.

The Shadow Veil Court's Hidden Sanctuary
Beneath the ruined city, hidden in the depths of an ancient cavern, whispers stirred in the dark.
Figures cloaked in shadows gathered around a stone table, their faces concealed by hoods woven with enchanted darkness.
"The time is near," one voice rasped, old yet filled with venom. "Kaizer's obsession with the girl has made him weak."
A second figure leaned forward. "And when the attack comes, he won't see it coming."
A third chuckled, low and sharp. "He's too busy trying to tame his new pet."
The first figure slammed a hand against the table. "She is not his. She was meant for another. And once the flames of war rise, she will return to the one who truly owns her."
Silence followed. Then, a whisper.
"The traitor has given us what we need. Tenebris Noctis will fall from within."
A cold wind howled through the cavern. And in the darkness, plans for Kaizer's destruction were set in motion.
