"Irina?!"
With a figure strikingly similar to his memories rapidly filling his vision at comet-like speed, Bokue Keikain was caught utterly off-guard, instinctively reaching out to catch her.
He really couldn't have expected this—after all, when Yura had called yesterday, she'd only mentioned Irina had asked for his address. He'd logically thought that, if she was going to visit, she'd probably show up at his house.
Who'd have imagined she'd directly come to his school—and was even already face-to-face with Rias and Akeno?!
Yet, despite her seemingly fierce incoming hug, the embrace that landed on him turned out to be surprisingly gentle and soft.
"Hehe~!"
The slender girl with vibrant orange twin-tails wrapped her arms tightly around his neck, lifting her head up with a cute face full of genuine, radiant joy.
"Yesterday, Xenovia and I had just arrived in Japan. After landing in Osaka, we immediately went to Kyoto. I initially wanted to go find you directly, but unexpectedly Yura-chan told me you'd moved to Tokyo. Coincidentally, that matches the destination for our current mission, so I planned to finish our task and then head straight to your place afterward. Who knew we'd meet here first! Such a lucky coincidence!"
"Yeah, quite the coincidence indeed—considering this is literally the only high school near my residence."
Bokue returned her enthusiasm with the fond gaze of an old friend.
Looking back to the past and then at the girl before him now, Bokue couldn't help but sigh internally at how she'd truly grown. Even through her seemingly loose-fitting church robes, he could clearly feel her slender waist and the exceptionally soft, elastic "armor plating" in front.
Though definitely not as pronounced as Rias or Akeno, it still ranked exceptionally high among Asian women.
Truly comforting. He'd initially worried, seeing how tomboyish she'd been as a child, that she might grow into a rough-and-tumble type. Fortunately, she'd somehow managed to find her way back onto a proper feminine path.
Wholesome.
A decade apart, and now reunited—thousands of words were stuck in their throats, waiting to be said.
Irina was still beaming with slightly moist eyes, about to continue speaking—but sitting opposite them, Rias' crimson eyes were already almost flaring up with fire—or rather, bloodlust.
"Miss Shidou, while I don't know the exact history between you and Bokue, we are currently in the middle of a meeting. Would you mind respecting that?"
"Ah…"
Irina turned to look, noticing the unpleasant expression on the faces behind her, and the puzzled look on her companion's face beside her. She quickly realized her behavior was indeed inappropriate and promptly released her embrace, smiling awkwardly.
"Ahaha, sorry about that~!"
"Bokue, come sit over here."
Rias' expression softened slightly as she moved aside to open up some space, patting the vacant spot on the sofa right next to herself.
Eh?
Irina blinked, momentarily stunned. Before she could say anything, however, she saw Bokue actually walk over obediently and sit next to the red-haired beauty.
Irina opened her mouth:
"W-wait… Bokue, why are you sitting with her? She's clearly—"
"We are indeed Devils. So what?"
Before Irina could finish, Rias interrupted confidently.
In sharp contrast to her previous posture—straight-backed, elegantly occupying the central seat to assert her dominance—now she not only gave up the middle position, but leaned slightly against Bokue's shoulder.
From a certain perspective, this was also a subtle yet clear declaration of ownership.
"I, Rias Gremory, am Bokue Keikain's girlfriend. Is there a problem with that?"
"G-G-G-G-Girlfriend?!"
Irina was utterly dumbfounded, her gaze flitting rapidly back and forth between the two, stammering in shock.
"Hold on—wait just a second! Bokue, please tell me, is this really true?! You're really dating a D-D-D-Devil?!"
"And what exactly is the issue with that?"
Rias gently lifted her chin, sending another question straight at the stunned girl's heart.
Xenovia, the blue-haired girl carrying a giant sword next to Irina, also stared at her strangely.
"Irina, what's wrong with you? We've seen Church warriors charmed by Devils before, let alone ordinary humans. If he still has even a shred of guilt about being human, then our role is simply to grant him God's forgiveness—"
"That's not what I'm talking about at all!"
Irina panicked, waving her arms helplessly.
"Hey, Xenovia, remember I mentioned to you about my childhood friend before?"
"Childhood friend…? Ah, you mean the one you first met in a snowball fight who shoved so much snow in your mouth, and even after learning you were actually a girl, started throwing snowballs at you even harder?"
"Yes, yes! That's him…"
Though this description sounded downright savage, it undoubtedly referred to a certain someone sitting across from them.
"I see."
Xenovia nodded slightly, then stood up, picking up her massive sword wrapped in white cloth beside the sofa. She swung it forward and pointed it straight at the young man, her voice calm yet deadly serious.
"My name is Xenovia Quarta. Bokue Keikain, you might be Irina's childhood friend, but as an Onmyōji who associates with Devils, if you still retain loyalty to your God, repent now and turn back. Otherwise, I will bring down divine judgment upon you with my Holy Sword."
"Faith… huh? I don't think I have anything of the sort."
Bokue shrugged carelessly.
"If you insist, just pretend I worship the Flying Spaghetti Monster."
——
PS : There is actually a Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, with tens of thousands of members... seriously!
——
The… Flying Spaghetti Monster?
Xenovia blinked, utterly baffled by this entirely new terminology.
Just hearing the name, she could only picture an absurdly hilarious image of flying spaghetti declaring itself divine.
Bokue sighed softly, continuing:
"Though seeing how you're acting, I now somewhat understand how people like Freed Sellzen came to be."
"Freed Sellzen? Don't lump us together with that scum!"
As if a sensitive nerve had been triggered, Xenovia's voice was edged with anger.
Bokue shook his head calmly.
"It's not lumping you together; it's more like grouping similar types. From where I stand, someone like you—always ready to deliver divine punishment—might soon end up just like Freed Sellzen: indiscriminately killing, colluding with fallen angels… hmm, you're currently two steps away from becoming him. Keep it up."
"....."
Xenovia frowned deeply.
At that moment, her eyes caught sight of a timid blonde nun sitting quietly next to Koneko.
"Could it be you? I believe I've seen your photo before."
"Ahh! Isn't she that nun who was expelled from the Church for possessing the power to heal even Devils? Her name was Asia Argento, right?"
Irina tapped her lips, recalling.
Xenovia's gaze hardened.
"Whatever your past may have been, once you've willingly associated yourself with Devils, you've become a witch."
A Witch…
The moment she heard this, Asia, already nervous from being recognized, shuddered softly and lowered her head, clutching anxiously at her heart.
Yet before she could attempt to explain, a warm and familiar power lifted her gently into the air, floating her over to hover just above the center of the sofa where Bokue was seated, and gently lowering her down.
"I fail to understand—how did my gentle, lovely devotee become a heretical witch in your eyes?"
Under Asia's astonished gaze, Bokue embraced her protectively with one arm and lifted his head to gaze sternly at the blue-haired girl wielding the huge sword.
"If you're here to discuss important matters, then do so properly. But if you're here just to pick a fight, then get the hell out—NOW."
BOOM!!
As his words fell, an overwhelming golden aura erupted violently from Bokue's body like a volcanic eruption.
An overwhelming pressure pressed mercilessly upon Xenovia's shoulders, almost forcing her down onto her knees.
It was a feeling as if she stood before an absolute supreme being.
