At the Bloody Battle Gang's mining area, the powerhouses of the three sects stood guard, eyes locked on the entrance to Heaven's Cave Inheritance. A full month had passed since its opening. Many disciples had already emerged—wounded, drained, or simply unable to endure.
From their scattered accounts, the elders pieced together fragments of what happened inside. The true inheritance had surfaced… but whose hands had claimed it remained a mystery.
The tension was palpable.
Then, suddenly, the light barrier cracked and shattered, a thunderous boom echoing through the mineral lode. A deep hole appeared, and shortly after, disciples began to emerge—dispersed across every corner of Black Wind Forest.
It was a protective measure. One designed to hide the inheritor.
Far from the chaos, atop Black Wind Mountain, Yang Kai stood beside Su Yan. After stepping through the portal, they had been relocated there.
"About 25 kilometers in that direction, we'll find Black Plum Village," Yang Kai said, pointing toward a misty stretch of forest.
Su Yan nodded. "Be careful… and return quickly."
She turned to go, but Yang Kai grabbed her wrist and pulled her back—into a firm, heated embrace.
Before she could ask, his lips crashed onto hers.
Su Yan melted into him, a soft mȯȧn escaping her throat.
When he finally pulled back, Yang Kai whispered, "Remember your promise. Thrice a month."
Her cheeks flushed, but she gave a subtle nod, brushing a hand against his cheek.
"I won't go back on it."
They parted reluctantly, stealing one last look.
"I'm leaving," Su Yan said firmly before turning and vanishing into the mist. Her white figure disappeared like a fleeting dream into the trees.
Yang Kai watched her retreating form until she was out of sight, then shook his head with a smile, beginning his walk toward High Heaven Pavilion.
Heaven's Cave Inheritance... Yang Kai mused. In the end, his greatest gain wasn't the inheritance itself, but Su Yan.
After several hours of leisurely walking, Yang Kai finally returned to High Heaven Pavilion. Most of the disciples and experts had already arrived, though a few remained scattered in the more remote areas and were just now returning. His arrival went unnoticed, allowing him to slip by unnoticed.
Reaching his small log cabin, Yang Kai didn't even have a chance to reorganize his humble dwelling before the sound of footsteps approached his door.
Curious, he wondered who would be visiting at this hour. He opened the door and found a green shadow hesitantly stepping inside.
"Little Senior Sister?" Yang Kai said, his smile widening as he clearly recognized her.
Xia Ning Cheng. He hadn't seen her since their time in the Inheritance Cave, and certainly not after their return from Nine Yin Mountain Valley.
"Brother!" Xia Ning Cheng greeted, her face brightening at the sight of him. She stepped inside and asked, "Did you just return?"
"Mhm, I just got back," Yang Kai nodded, confirming her question.
"I heard you also entered the Heaven's Cave Inheritance, but I couldn't find you inside," he continued.
Xia Ning Cheng, as charming as ever, turned a soft shade of pink at his words. Her ears flushed, and she looked down in a shy yet sweet gesture.
Yang Kai noticed the slight blush on Xia Ning Cheng's cheeks, her usual confidence faltering in the moment. He couldn't help but find it endearing. It was a rare sight to see the usually composed Xia Ning Cheng appear so flustered.
"I... I was busy," Xia Ning Cheng said, quickly brushing a strand of hair behind her ear, avoiding Yang Kai's gaze. "There were so many people in there. I couldn't find you, and then... I just focused on my own matters."
Yang Kai grinned, feeling a playful energy rising within him. "So, you're telling me, the mighty Xia Ning Cheng couldn't find me in a crowd?"
Xia Ning Cheng's cheeks reddened even further, and she quickly shook her head. "It's not that! You were probably too busy, I just didn't want to disturb you."
Yang Kai's eyes softened. "I understand. But if you wanted to see me, you could have tried harder." His tone was teasing but gentle.
Before she could say anything, Yang Kai gestured to a nearby chair.
"Sit down. Tell me, how have things been for you after the Inheritance?" he asked, his voice softening, as though sensing her discomfort.
Xia Ning Cheng, still a little embarrassed, nodded and sat down, smoothing her robes with a slight tremble in her hands. "Things have been fine. The Inheritance was... overwhelming, to say the least. But I've learned quite a bit." She paused, then looked up at him. "What about you? Did you... find what you were looking for?"
Yang Kai met her gaze, the corners of his mouth lifting into a knowing smile. "More than I could have ever imagined."
"Oh right, I also found some Yang Flame Stone inside, and made some Medicine Pills for you," Xia Ning Cheng said, reaching out with a bottle in her hand. "You need this for your cultivation, don't you?"
Yang Kai accepted the bottle with a smile. "Thanks!" he replied, genuinely appreciative.
Xia Ning Cheng shook her head lightly. "You don't need to be so polite," she murmured, her cheeks tinged with a faint pink.
Yang Kai gave her a teasing look. "Don't you want to sit and chat with me?"
She quickly waved her hands in refusal, her face reddening. "No, no. I just wanted to check on you." Xia Ning Cheng seemed to fluster a bit, clearly not comfortable with the thought of lingering in his cabin alone. "I should be going now. You need rest."
Yang Kai chuckled softly, not pushing the issue. "Alright, I won't keep you. You too, take care. I'm quite tired myself."
Xia Ning Cheng smiled at his understanding. "I will. Get some good rest, Yang Kai."
As she turned to leave, Yang Kai's gaze lingered on her for a moment longer before he closed the door behind her.
A night passed silently afterwards. He didn't do anything else but sleep quietly and calmly.
The next day, he travelled to the Black Wind Trade City to purchase some Three Leaves Chaos Spirit Flowers and Dead Jedi Tree Grass.
In the wake of the incident with Heaven's Cave Inheritance, the Black Wind Trade City became quite lively. The various disciples of the three sects were discussing their fortuitous encounters in the cave, the nine formidable Monster Beasts and of course, the endless steps.
The people who were unable to enter the cave listened with great interest.
Su Yan was not guarding the Black Wind Trade City. At present, it was not safe for her to leave the High Heaven Pavilion. Everyone from the three sects was staring at her. They wanted to know if she had obtained the genuine inheritance.
