Chapter Fifty-One

The following day, after a quick check of his emails, Peter stepped into the strategy meeting with an air of confident poise. Dressed in a crisp white Dior suit, matching shoes, a gold wristwatch, and a pocket square adding a touch of sophistication, he exuded the essence of a visionary CEO. The faint scent of his cologne completed his polished presence, which didn't go unnoticed by the executive as he led them through the upcoming product launch strategy.

With a focus on innovative marketing campaigns and a seamless rollout, Peter outlined their objectives, encouraging his team's input at every step. The room buzzed with energy as his passion and clarity inspired each executive. Together, they brainstormed, building on each other's ideas, and Peter felt a rush of excitement as the plan took shape.

'Okay, everyone,' Peter said, leaning forward, 'we need to ensure our messaging reaches every demographic. Let's prioritise social media and targeted ads. We want to create a buzz!'

The team responded enthusiastically, sharing ideas with each other. Peter's passion for the project fuelled the discussion, and each executive felt proud of his exceptional talent.

As the meeting wrapped up, Stella was already on her feet, diligently taking notes on her sleek tablet, capturing action items and deadlines with precision. She excelled at organising complex details, ensuring Peter's vision translated into actionable plans. Once the executives dispersed, she approached Peter with a neatly compiled list of follow-up tasks, noting who was responsible for each.

'Here's what we discussed,' Stella said, her tone professional yet friendly. 'I've scheduled a follow-up meeting for next week to check on progress. Magnus is already coordinating with the marketing team on the campaign launch. He'll keep you updated.'

Magnus quickly added, 'I'll handle the logistics for the marketing meeting and ensure they have everything they need. I'll also pull together the analytics from our last campaign to inform our next steps.'

Peter nodded appreciatively at both of them. 'Perfect. I can always count on you two to keep things running smoothly.' He felt grateful for their support, knowing that with Stella's meticulous organisation and Magnus's proactive approach, the company was in good hands. In fact, the entire staff was talented, each contributing to the company in their own way.

Later, in her office after wrapping up for the day, Stella hesitated before messaging Peter. Finally, she typed:

'Let's have dinner tonight?'

Peter's response was immediate:

'Yes.'

He couldn't hide his excitement; this was the first time Stella had taken the initiative. Since becoming his personal secretary, she had mostly declined his invitations to dinner or lunch, though there had been a few occasions when she had agreed—sometimes for casual lunches, and usually for work-related reasons. But today felt different. Stella asking him out added an extra spark to his already energised day, and he found himself intrigued by the sudden invitation. Did this mean she had forgiven him? Was she ready to accept him after all these years of his waiting? He wondered. But for now, those questions didn't matter. All that mattered was that he would be having dinner with her tonight, and he couldn't be happier.

'I'll leave first and send you the address,' Stella wrote.

A short while later, Stella arrived home, a sense of clarity settling over her. After her talk with Chinedu yesterday, she realised how much Peter had done to protect her, even if it meant keeping certain things hidden. She understood his reasons now and wanted to show him her appreciation tonight.

She chose a striking red gown that hugged her figure, letting her hair fall in soft waves that framed her face. After slipping on her heels, she took a deep breath, ready to embrace the evening. She wondered what Peter would say when he saw her. Opening the door, she was met with Peter's warm gaze.

'Peter!' she exclaimed, surprised. 'What are you doing here?'

His eyes travelled over her, admiration clear in his expression. 'I wanted to pick you up myself,' he replied, his voice warm. He stepped closer, gently tucking a stray curl behind her ear, his touch sending a warmth that lingered. 'Besides, I couldn't wait to see you.'

'Stella, he couldn't control himself,' Chijioke said into Peter's smart earpiece, its voice filled with playful sarcasm. 'He's been pacing around like a puppy waiting for dinner. I'm surprised he's not here already throwing rose petals on the floor.'

Peter stifled a laugh, glancing at Stella with a sheepish grin. 'Chijioke never misses a chance to tease me, does he?'

'I can practically hear the excitement in your voice. It's like watching a teenager at their first prom.' Chijioke said, its tone light and teasing.

Peter shook his head, trying to suppress his amusement. 'I'll deal with you later.'

Turning his attention back to Stella, he caught the faint blush rising on her cheeks as she spoke. Her voice was soft, yet curious. 'But we planned to meet at the restaurant.' For a moment, her eyes shifted downward, as if she was gathering her thoughts or feeling a bit shy, before she looked back up and met his gaze. A shy smile played on her lips as she added, 'Well, I hope I'm worth the early arrival.'

He reached for her hand, pulling her close until they were mere inches apart. 'More than worth it.' Then, he asked her with a sweet smile, 'What's wrong with me picking up my date? Don't you like it?'

'I do,' she replied, smiling up at him.

'Let's go, then.' He extended his arm, and she slid her hand into it.

As they walked towards his car, Stella gave him a playful smile. 'Tonight, it's my treat. You've always paid for our meals, but not this time.' Peter raised an eyebrow in mock disagreement, but she wagged a finger at him. 'No arguments, or I'll kiss you until you give in.'

He chuckled, his voice dropping to a low murmur. 'You couldn't possibly outlast me.'

As they reached the car, he glanced at her admiringly. 'You look like a film star in that outfit.'

'I was hoping you'd notice,' she laughed, giving a playful twirl. 'I bought this for the launch, but tonight feels just as important, maybe even more.'

'Why's that?' he asked, wrapping an arm around her.

She looked up, her eyes softening. 'Because it's the night we've both been waiting for.'
