Chapter Sixty-Two

The next morning, at Richie Villa, Night woke up feeling sharp pains in her belly. She knew it was time. Richie, noticing her discomfort, walked over to sit beside her on the bed.

'Are you okay, Best?' he asked, his voice full of concern.

'I think it's time,' she said, holding her belly.

Without wasting a second, Richie called the renowned hospital in Asokoro District where Night had been attending her antenatal appointments. He informed them to prepare for her arrival. He had already ensured that the best doctors and nurses would be available when the moment came.

'Breathe, my Best, just breathe,' Richie said soothingly as he held her hand, his other arm securely around her shoulders, guiding her to the luxury SUV waiting outside.

Night managed a weak smile despite the discomfort, her voice laced with humour. 'I'm breathing, Richie. You're the one who looks like you're about to faint.'

Richie chuckled nervously, opening the car door and helping her settle into the passenger seat. 'Not fainting, just… overly prepared,' he said, but his voice showed how worried he really was.

The drive through Abuja's serene streets was quick but felt endless to Richie. He insisted on driving himself, believing he would be more careful than anyone else. His knuckles whitened as he gripped the steering wheel, but he maintained a calm exterior for Night's sake.

When they arrived, the hospital staff were ready. A team of nurses and a doctor stood waiting with a wheelchair.

As they wheeled Night into the maternity ward, Richie stayed by her side, whispering words of encouragement and stroking her hand.

'You're doing amazing, Night,' he said, his voice steady. 'We're almost there.'

The labour room buzzed with activity as the team prepared for the delivery. The contractions grew stronger, but Night held on, her determination shining through. Richie, now wearing hospital scrubs, stood beside her, his eyes never leaving hers.

'I'm right here,' he whispered, pressing a kiss to her forehead. 'You've got this.'

Hours later, the sound of a baby's cry filled the room. The first twin, a healthy baby boy, was born.

'It's a boy!' the doctor announced, holding up the tiny bundle. Richie's eyes glistened with tears of joy as he gazed at his son.

Moments later, another cry echoed through the room—a softer, melodic sound.

'And here's your little girl!' the doctor said, handing the second twin to the nurse for cleaning.

Night leaned back against the pillows, utterly exhausted but glowing with joy. Richie leaned down and brushed a kiss against her temple. 'Hansel and Kimberly,' he murmured, the names they had lovingly chosen now becoming real.

The nurses brought the swaddled twins to their parents. Richie carefully placed one arm around Night and cradled Hansel with the other, while Night held Kimberly. The room was filled with an overwhelming sense of love and fulfilment.

'They're perfect,' Night whispered, her voice breaking with emotion.

Richie nodded, his voice thick with tears. 'Just like their mother.'

Richie then took out his phone and video-called Wealth to share the news. Wealth was in the villa's living room, playing with his robotic dog, when the call came through. As soon as he saw his twin siblings on the screen, his face lit up with excitement. Forgetting the game, he called for one of the villa's drivers to take him to the hospital—he couldn't wait to meet them in person.

'I've got to meet them! Right now!'

Wealth arrived at the hospital with a wide grin, practically bouncing with excitement as he stepped out of the car. The driver had barely parked before Wealth dashed towards the entrance, his robotic dog tucked under one arm like a prized companion.

The hospital lobby buzzed softly with activity, but all Wealth noticed was the bold, clear sign with an arrow pointing left to the maternity ward, its letters easily visible above the crowd. His small feet echoed against the polished tiles as he followed the arrows, his face glowing with anticipation.

When he reached the ward, a nurse greeted him with a warm smile and guided him to the room. Wealth peeked inside to find Richie and Night sitting together, holding the tiny bundles that were his new siblings. His heart swelled as he saw Hansel and Kimberly, snug in their blankets.

'Night, look who's here,' Richie said, his voice full of warmth as he spotted Wealth.

Wealth rushed in, his eyes darting between the twins and his parents. 'They're so tiny!' he exclaimed, carefully placing his robotic dog on the nearby chair before reaching out hesitantly to touch Hansel's tiny fingers.

Night smiled, her exhaustion momentarily forgotten as she watched her son's joy. 'Meet your brother, Hansel... and your sister, Kimberly.'

'They're perfect,' Wealth whispered, his voice filled with awe. 'Can I hold one?'

Richie nodded, gently placing Kimberly into Wealth's waiting arms. Wealth cradled her carefully, his young face beaming with pride.

'I'll teach them everything, Mum!' Wealth declared, his excitement spilling over. 'And maybe Kimberly can even play with my dog someday!'

Richie laughed softly, patting Wealth's hair. 'I'm sure she will, Wealth. But for now, let's let them grow a bit.'

The family was complete. In the midst of all the love and joy in the room, Richie and Night couldn't help but share a quiet moment of bliss. Outside, the bustling city of Abuja continued, but then, it seemed everyone had smiles on their faces, as the news of Night's delivery soon began trending online. Bloggers like Linda Ikeji and BellaNaija quickly picked up the story, splashing it across their platforms with headlines celebrating the arrival of Richie's twins.
