Chapter 10: Ambushed by an Alien

Third Point of view

We were still surrounded by the scavengers. They were four and we were three. We were out of ammo and the scavengers, who carried bats definitely had no firepower too. In a fair fight we could charge together and somehow emerge victorious, but this wasn't a normal fight. Nothing was normal since early this morning. Only God knew what kind of weapons they had kept secretly.

After a few minutes of gauging our enemies strength the scavengers were frustrated and attacked first. That was their fatal mistake. As if in slow motion, I saw the path of the baseball bat one of them swung at me. I quickly dodged it and countered his attack by striking him with the base of my pistol at the back of his head, making him crumble to the ground immediately.

The next man charged at me, full of rage, but at the same time he remained cautious. He also seemed more skilled than the first guy. We both have each other dangerous gazes expressing murderous intent.

The first set of swings he did was much harder for me to dodge even as I could see the path of the swing. I needed something to use to deflect his attacks. My pistol was basically useless in this situation.

I narrowly dodged another set of his attacks before approaching the man I had knocked out earlier. If I had his bat I could turn the tide of this one sided conflict. Just as I dodged a strike to my head and picked up the bat I received a hit to my right shoulder before I could turn to face him.

I was amazed by the strength of the attack. My right shoulder was immediately decommissioned. Now I had a bat but I also had one hand left to use to defend myself.

Luckily, the man seemed to become overconfident and started attacking recklessly. How I dodged his attacks continuously, I didn't know. He took a step back and charged at full speed, no doubt hoping to make a final strike, but the expression on his face as I dodged it said it all.

I struck him with all my might. He was unconscious before even touching the ground. I painfully moved my shoulder back to it's original position before looking around for the others. I found them staring at me in awe, no doubt shocked by how I had defeated those two guys. I was amazed myself, wondering after every passing second if the person who had defeated them was me or not.

We continued on our way, our senses still on high alert after the encounter with the scavengers. We had been walking non stop, the sun beating down on us relentlessly. We were just a few streets from the shelter now.

As we turned a corner, I noticed something strange in the atmosphere. There was this eerie otherworldly demonic aura I felt. It felt like the air itself was choking me. My body began to shiver and I stopped to puke.

The others stopped and looked at me with worry and pity in their eyes. Couldn't they feel the tremendously terrifying aura in the air. Ah, they couldn't. Once again only I could sense that something was wrong.

I stopped to look around before we proceeded. I was sure that something was definitely out there waiting for us, but I could not make out what it was. Suddenly, Ann pointed at something in the distance. What u saw made my blood run cold.

My heart skipped a beat as I froze, my eyes locked on the figure. Dave followed my gaze, his eyes scanning the horizon.

"What is that?" Ann whispered, her voice trembling with fear.

Dave's eyes narrowed. "I don't know, but I do not like it."

The figure began to move towards us, its long legs making loud noises whenever it took a step forward. Approaching us now was a creature I had hoped never to see again. It looked different from the one I had fought earlier, but it was definitely of the same origin.

The alien before me was much bigger than the previous one. It had longer, deadlier claws and bloodshot eyes. It oozed of a demonic aura that made me catch my breath. I could only stare in terror at the disaster that approached us.

"We need to get out of here," Dave said, his voice firm and urgent. "Now."

We quickly turned around and began to run, our feet pounding the pavement as we desperately tried to escape the alien. The alien obviously had no plans of letting it's new play thing run away. It began it's pursuit and quickly gained on us, its long arms reaching out to grab us.

I could feel its hot breath on my neck, and I knew that we were running out of time.

Suddenly, Dave stopped and turned around, his gun raised and ready.

"Take cover!" he yelled, as he began to fire at the alien with a guy he had found lying around close to the corpse of a dead scavenger. Ann and I quickly took cover behind a nearby dumpster, our hearts racing with fear.

The alien was relentless, its giant eyes fixed on us as it continued to advance. Dave's gun was firing non-stop, but the alien just kept coming. The bullets did no real damage to the fur of the menacing creature. I knew that we couldn't keep this up for much longer. We needed a new plan, and fast.

"Dave, we need to get out of here!" I yelled, as the alien continued to advance.

Dave nodded, his eyes scanning the surrounding area.

"There's an alleyway to our left," he yelled back. "Let's make a run for it."

We quickly made a dash for the alleyway, the alien hot on our heels. We ran as fast as we could, our hearts pounding as we desperately tried to escape. Finally, we reached the end of the alleyway and emerged onto an empty street. It seemed all too certain that our end had come. What could we do to prevent this tragic end?

As we emerged onto the empty street, I could feel the alien's eyes on us, its gaze burning into my skin. We knew we couldn't outrun it for much longer. But no plan on how to put maneuver it came to mind.

"Dave, we need to find a place to hide," Ann yelled, her voice laced with panic.

Dave's eyes and mind raced for a solution. "There is a building to our right," he yelled back. "Let's make a run for it."

We sprinted towards the building, our feet pounding the pavement. The alien was closing in on us, its paws of death reaching out to grab us.

We burst through the doors of the building, slamming them shut behind us. We leaned against the doors, panting heavily, our hearts racing with fear.

But we knew we could not stay here for long. The alien would find a way in, and when it did, we would be trapped.

"We need to keep moving," Dave said, his voice firm and urgent. "We cannot stay here."

We nodded in agreement, our minds racing for a new plan. We knew we couldn't outrun the alien, but maybe we could outsmart it. As we moved deeper into the building, we stumbled upon a ventilation shaft. It was our only hope.

"In here," Dave whispered, his eyes locked on the shaft. "It's our only chance."

We quickly climbed into the shaft, our hearts pounding in our chests. We knew the alien would find us eventually, but for now, we were safe.

As we caught our breath, I couldn't help but think about how we had ended up here. We had barely been surviving on our own, scavenging for food and supplies, always looking over our shoulders. But now, we had a new enemy. An enemy that was relentless, unstoppable, and seemingly invincible.

We knew we couldn't stay in the ventilation shaft forever. We needed a good plan, a new way to survive. As we sat in silence, our minds racing for a solution, I heard a faint noise coming from outside the shaft. It was the alien, searching for us.

"We need to move," Dave whispered, as he eyed the vent. "Now."

We quickly crawled through the shaft, our hearts pounding in our chests. We knew the alien was closing in on us, and we needed to find a new hiding spot, fast. As we emerged from the shaft, we found ourselves in a large, empty room. It was our only hope.

"We need to barricade ourselves in," Ann whispered, her eyes scanning the room. "We can't let it in."

It was risky, but it was our only hope. We quickly gathered whatever we could find, furniture, boxes, anything, and barricaded ourselves in. We knew it was only a temporary solution, but it was our only hope.

We sat in silence, our hearts pounding in our chests, we knew that it was only a matter of time for us to be found. But for now, we were safe. We would make it through another day, and we would keep fighting, no matter what.

As I looked around the room, I saw my comrades, a look of terror and despair in their faces. They had been so much that fighting back to survive seemed hopeless. How was I still call in this situation.

That was when I remembered. How had I been this calm and collected? How was I suddenly swift and decisive? All of these questions in my head pointed to one answer; the tech on my wrist and the voice in my head.

I calmed myself down to collect me thoughts and meditate. Surprisingly, it wasn't that hard to remain calm, even though there was a two metre plus walking disaster after our lives.

Then I heard a voice which I had only heard once before, but nothing made me happier than it.
