The Senju clan's sentries had detected them much earlier.
By the time they reached the entrance, a large crowd had already gathered to welcome them. Among them stood Tobirama and Hashirama's father, the current Senju clan leader, Senju Butsuma.
"Father, we were ambushed by the Uchiha on our way back. Three of our uncles were injured. If not for the help of the Uzumaki clan's Second Elder, Uzumaki Akio, we might not have been able to fend them off," Tobirama spoke up before Senju Butsuma could even ask.
A murmur of outrage spread among the gathered crowd.
"The Uchiha clan! How dare they?"
"Clan Leader, give us the order! We'll make them pay!"
"Clan Leader—"
"Enough!" Butsuma interrupted. "Today is Hashirama and Mito's wedding. As for the Uchiha, we will deal with them in due time."
"Someone, take the injured to be treated properly. Where is Hashirama? It's already getting late. Call him out so we can begin the ceremony!"
"This all feels a bit rushed. My apologies, Mito. And this must be Uzumaki Akio… Second Elder, correct? We appreciate your efforts today."
"There's no need for formalities, Senju Clan Leader. You may simply call me Akio," Akio replied. Facing the leader of the greatest clan of the Warring States period and sensing the overwhelming chakra within him—far greater than his own—Akio dared not claim seniority.
"The sheer amount of chakra… As expected of the Senju Clan Leader. Compared to him, even the Uzumaki clan elders pale in strength. He must be at the peak of clan leadership level. In this war-torn era, only future figures like Hashirama and Madara would be able to surpass him," Akio thought to himself.
At that moment, two figures emerged from within the clan compound. One was the Senju Clan's Third Elder, Senju Unken, and the other was none other than Hashirama himself.
Akio gazed at the man who would one day become the God of Shinobi. Seeing him occasionally steal glances at Mito, Akio couldn't help but chuckle at his slightly absentminded demeanor, a reminder of Hashirama's quirky personality.
"Hashirama is here. How are the preparations in the hall?" Butsuma asked.
"All set, Clan Leader," the Third Elder responded. Meanwhile, Hashirama had already slipped into an inexplicable state of shyness.
"In that case, let's all move to the hall," Butsuma declared.
Akio cleared his throat and exchanged a glance with Tobirama.
Tobirama immediately understood and spoke up, "Father, the Uzumaki Clan would like the wedding ceremony to follow their traditions."
This was the result of an impromptu "dirty deal" Akio had struck with Tobirama using a shuriken replacement jutsu on their way back.
However, Akio was not the only Uzumaki present. Mito, eyeing her unreliable Second Elder, immediately understood what had happened.
"Yes, I would also prefer a wedding in the Uzumaki style," Mito added unexpectedly, siding with Akio.
"If that's what you wish, Mito, then so be it. Tobirama, you are familiar with the ceremony. Can you officiate your brother's wedding?" Butsuma asked.
"I can, Father," Tobirama replied.
The group entered the grand hall, and Tobirama took charge. "Father, Second Elder, as representatives of both families, please take your seats at the main table."
He then led Hashirama and Mito to the center of the hall.
Suppressing a sigh, Tobirama forced himself to recite the ceremonial script.
"The first ritual of the wedding: the couple must share an apple." With that, he suspended an apple between them using a string.
"Elder Brother, Sister-in-law, you may only use your mouths to eat the apple—no hands allowed."
What followed was difficult to put into words. Suffice to say, by the end of it, Hashirama's face was completely flushed, while Mito merely chuckled at his embarrassment.
Even Tobirama couldn't help but smirk. It was rare to see his older brother so flustered, and he finally understood why Akio had insisted on this particular ceremony.
"The second ritual: the couple's vow of love."
Tobirama felt even more awkward as he continued.
"Uzumaki Mito, do you take this man as your husband, to be joined in marriage? Will you love him, care for him, respect him, accept him, and remain faithful to him in sickness and in health, for as long as you live?"
Mito hesitated for a moment before replying, "I do."
Before Tobirama could finish reciting the vows to Hashirama, his brother blurted out, "I do!" causing the entire hall to erupt in laughter.
Tobirama sighed and continued, "The third ritual: bowing in respect."
"First, bow to the heavens!"
The couple hesitated before hurriedly bowing.
"Second, bow to the elders!"
Hashirama and Mito turned and bowed toward Butsuma and Akio.
"Third, bow to each other!"
The couple exchanged smiles and bowed deeply to one another.
"With that, the ceremony is complete! Now, escort the couple to their wedding chamber!"
"Alright, Brother, Sister-in-law, the wedding is over. It's getting late, so you should rest early," Tobirama teased.
This time, even Mito blushed. The two exchanged a glance before turning to Butsuma and Akio. "Father, Second Elder, Elders, we'll take our leave now."
"Go on," Butsuma replied.
As the couple departed, the gathered clan members laughed and chatted as they dispersed.
Only Butsuma, Akio, Tobirama, the Senju clan's three territorial elders, and the elders of the eastern and western battlefields remained.
After a moment of silence, Butsuma turned to the Third Elder and said, "Akio has had a long day of travel. Tobirama, take him to the guest quarters to rest."
"I could use some rest," Akio admitted, following Tobirama out.
Once they had left, Butsuma's expression darkened. "What in the world was that ridiculous wedding? That was an Uzumaki tradition?"
The First Elder chuckled. "Likely Akio's doing. I've heard he's quite eccentric, but this exceeds expectations."
Butsuma sighed. "Regardless, it doesn't affect the bigger picture. With Hashirama and Mito's marriage, our bond with the Uzumaki clan is stronger than ever."
The Eastern Elder nodded. "Indeed. With their support, our eastern front will be much more stable. The damned Kaguya clan… We must teach them a lesson."
"We can't rely entirely on the Uzumaki. They've always been neutral in conflicts. After Hashirama's honeymoon, let him and Tobirama reinforce your frontlines," Butsuma decided.
"Good. Those taijutsu fanatics are no match for Hashirama's Wood Release," the Northern Elder agreed.
Meanwhile, Akio had finally reached his guest room. The mixed wedding had satisfied a long-standing sentiment from his past life. Of course, he would never admit that his true motive had been to make Hashirama bow to him as an elder.
Just as he lay down, a familiar set of characters flashed in his mind:
'Participation and witness of a major event in the world of Naruto: Hashirama and Mito's wedding. Earned 20 Witness Points.'
