Chapter 9: The DNA Test

Elara clenched her fists. "A DNA test?"

Cassian leaned back in his chair, his sharp gaze unrelenting. "Yes. You've admitted they're mine, but I want proof."

Her stomach twisted. He didn't believe her. Not fully.

"What happens after?" she asked, her voice tense.

Cassian's eyes flickered. "That depends on the results."

Elara inhaled slowly. This was it. The moment that would change everything.

She had always known that if Cassian ever found out, he wouldn't let go.

And now, there was no way to stop it.

Later That Day

The hospital was quiet, the sterile scent of disinfectant thick in the air.

Oliver and Olivia sat on the exam table, oblivious to the storm brewing between their parents.

Cassian watched closely as the nurse swabbed Oliver's cheek.

The boy looked up at him with curious eyes. "Does this mean we're related?"

Elara tensed.

Cassian met Oliver's gaze, something unreadable passing over his expression. "We'll find out soon."

Beside them, Olivia grinned. "Mom said I have my own DNA. Does that mean I'm not related to anyone?"

Elara sighed. "That's not how it works, sweetie."

Cassian almost smiled. Almost.

The Waiting Game

Back at her apartment, Elara sat on the couch, her mind racing.

The results would come in soon. And then?

Would Cassian demand custody? Would he take them away from her?

A sharp knock at the door yanked her from her thoughts.

She opened it to find Cassian.

His expression was unreadable, but his next words made her stomach drop.

"Until the results come in, I want to see them. Every day."
