Valerie's eyes fluttered open as the first rays of dawn crept through the curtains. Sleep had been elusive—haunted by nightmares of Varion's attacks and Charles's absence. The city outside was a grim reflection of her fears—buildings scarred by battle, streets littered with debris, and a fearful hush hanging over Dragon City.
A sudden thud jolted her from her thoughts. She froze, heart pounding. The sound came from the balcony.
Cautiously, Valerie crept toward the sliding door. She reached out, hesitating, before pulling it open. A gust of cold air rushed in, carrying the scent of ash and charred stone. Her eyes widened.
A figure stood hunched over, armor battered, cloak torn, and breathing raggedly. His face was hidden in the shadows, but the faint glow of crimson flames flickered around him.
"Charles?" she gasped.
He straightened,
Oh my God! Charles!" she cried. She helped him to the couch, panic lacing her voice. "What happened to you?"
Charles winced, clutching his side. "Varion…he was stronger than I expected. I thought I could handle him, but I underestimated him."
Valerie frowned, brushing sweat-drenched hair from his face. "Why didn't you call for help? You disappeared without a word!"
"I had to figure it out," to find a solution which I did Charles replied
I just need to heal and gather my strength."
"And if he comes back before then?" Valerie asked, fear creeping in.
Charles looked into her eyes, unwavering. "Then I'll face him, even if it kills me."
Valerie's expression hardened. "You're not dying on me, Charles. Not now, not ever."
He chuckled weakly. "I'll do my best."
Five days later, Dragon City was shrouded in darkness. Storm clouds gathered, thunder rumbling ominously. The air was charged, anticipation gripping the city. Citizens cowered indoors, praying for deliverance.
A thunderous boom echoed across the skyline. Varion emerged, his twisted staff radiating ominous energy. His eyes glowed with malevolence as he surveyed the trembling city.
"Dragon City!" he roared. "Bow before your new god!"
A blaze of crimson flame streaked through the air, landing with a resounding thud. The Black Pyron stood defiantly, flames dancing around his body.
"It ends today, Varion," Charles declared.
Varion sneered. "Bold words. Let's see if you can back them .
The air crackled with tension as Charles and Varion faced each other, the ruined skyline of Dragon City framing their standoff. Citizens peered nervously from shattered windows and barricaded doorways, eyes wide with fear and hope. Storm clouds churned above, lightning streaking across the sky.
Varion's twisted staff pulsed with dark energy, the shadows around him bending unnaturally. His eyes blazed with a hunger for destruction, and a cruel smirk twisted his lips.
"Back from the dead, are we?" Varion mocked, tapping the staff against the cracked asphalt. "You look worse than before. I must not have hit you hard enough."
Charles steadied his breathing, flames flickering around his clenched fists. Though the Pyronis had healed him, the strain of the last battle still lingered. But he couldn't afford doubt—not now.
"I've come to end this, Varion," Charles declared, his voice firm. "This is your last chance. Surrender and face justice."
Varion threw his head back and laughed, the sound echoing ominously. "Justice? You speak of justice when you abandoned this city? I've made them fear a god, while you played hero. The Black Pyron is weak!"
Charles's eyes narrowed. "I won't let you hurt anyone else."
"Oh, you misunderstand," Varion sneered, dark energy curling around his fingers. "I plan to tear this city apart—one soul at a time."
He raised the staff, and a pulse of shadow erupted from its tip, spreading out like a shockwave. Windows shattered, cars overturned, and the ground trembled violently. Charles leaped forward, flames igniting around him as he blasted through the darkness, meeting Varion's staff with a fierce punch.
The impact sent a shockwave rippling through the air. Varion staggered back, scowling. "So, you still have some fight left."
"I've got more than that," Charles shot back, summoning fireballs in both hands and hurling them toward Varion. The villain swung his staff, dispersing the flames, but Charles was already on him, fists blazing. A flurry of punches sent Varion stumbling, but a quick burst of dark energy knocked Charles off balance.
Varion's staff shot forward, dark tendrils wrapping around Charles's limbs. The Black Pyron struggled, flames flaring as he resisted the crushing grip. Varion sneered. "You'll die like the weakling you are."
"No!" Charles roared, igniting his entire body. The flames surged, burning away the tendrils. He lunged forward, landing a powerful blow to Varion's jaw. The villain snarled, clutching his face.
"You think brute force will save you?" Varion hissed, twirling the staff. "Let's test that theory!"
He thrust the staff forward, and a beam of darkness erupted, slamming into Charles's chest. The blast hurled him through the air, smashing him against a crumbling building. Rubble crashed around him as he groaned, struggling to rise.
Varion advanced slowly. "This city will kneel before me, and you will be nothing but a forgotten legend."
Charles wiped blood from his lips, eyes blazing. "Not today."
The Pyronis surged through him, and flames engulfed his body in a blazing aura. He charged, weaving around Varion's attacks, flames scorching the ground. Varion raised his staff to block, but Charles seized it with one hand, squeezing hard.
"You rely too much on this," Charles growled. Flames ignited around his hand, heating the staff. Varion screamed as the dark energy recoiled, and with a mighty pull, Charles ripped the staff from his grasp and snapped it over his knee.
"No!" Varion howled as a dark cloud erupted from the broken staff, swirling around him. Shadows consumed his body, and he thrashed violently.
Charles's eyes hardened. "You chose darkness. Now face it alone."
Varion's screams grew distant as the shadows enveloped him, his form fading into a wisp of black smoke. The darkness dispersed, and the villain was gone—banished.
Exhausted, Charles fell to his knees, the flames around him fading. Dragon City was silent, the air heavy with awe. Citizens emerged cautiously, murmurs of relief spreading.
A single voice shouted, "The Black Pyron saved us!"
Applause erupted, and cheers filled the city. Charles managed a weak smile before darkness claimed him.
