Alex's Status

"Status"

After uttering that word, the blue screen appeared again.

It was slightly larger than before. Alex was surprised, he hadn't said that word, because he expected that something would appear.

He said Status, because he wanted to be sure that it wasn't real.

Calming down a bit, Alex took a closer look at the blue screen.

——————————————

"Whoa… what is this?" Alex asked, staring at the blue screen.

'Strength, Constitution, Dexterity, Intelligence, Wisdom and Charisma.' Alex read in his mind.

Looking at Charisma, which had a score of three, Alex remembered Thomas saying that he didn't look trustworthy.

"Yeah… fuck you too." Alex mumbled.

Inspecting the screen further with caution, Alex noticed his full name displayed. His middle name being the first name of his father.

Below his name was his Level, showing the number four. Below his level was his class which was locked.

At the bottom of the screen were his skills, which at this point were empty.

Suddenly another screen appeared.

[To take a closer look at the Users skills, please press the text that says 'Skills'.]

After pressing the dark blue circle the message disappeared. Continuing, Alex pressed on the text that said Skills.

Another screen appered:

——————————————

Skills:

Active: /

Passive: /

——————————————

Looking with a dumbfounded expression, Alex tried to close the screen, but he couldn't find any button.

Pondering for a few minutes, he came to the conclusion to say something out loud. After all, his Status also appeared, because he said something out loud.

"Stop...Shut down…Close. Close Skills." Upon saying those last words, the screen with his Skills disappeared.

After looking at his Status, he closed that screen too.

Immediately after closing his Status, a new message appeared.

[The first challenge for the User has been generated.

Location: Westpark.

Remaining Hours: 70 hours, Sunday 08:00 p.m.

Be prepared.]

"A challenge in the Westpark, why should I go?" Alex asked, closing the screen and going to bed.

---

*beep beep beep beep*

"Five more minutes…" Alex mumbled, still being in Dreamland.

*beep beep beep beep*

*beep beep beep beep*

*beep beep beep beep*

Opening his eyes, Alex got up, slammed several times on his alarm clock and lay down again.

After lying down for several minutes, Alex realized that he had school, he shot out of bed got ready. He made himself a sandwich for school, because he hadn't eaten breakfast.

He rode the bus to school. Upon arriving he went to a different room than his classroom, because for the first two periods he had German.

The secondary language weren't assigned for the classes, but the students could decided which language they wanted. Thomas, for example, had Spanish.

'German, English, Philosophy, Music and Art. Great what a boring day.' Alex frowned at the thought that he only had subjects he didn't like.

When Alex entered the German classroom, a teacher was already sitting at her desk.

"You can choose any seat you like." She told Alex.

Hearing those words, Alex chose a seat in the back row, contrary to his seat in his classroom where the student got placed by their surnames.

More students arrived. Someone from a different class sat next to Alex. After the student sat down, he laid down his head on the table.

*Ding Dang Dong*

"Guten Morgen, lieber Deutschkurs, I am Ms. Meyer. I was born and raised in Germany, but decided to live abroad and work as a German teacher."

After hearing Ms. Meyer's introduction, Alex decided that the next best action is to copy his seatmate, lie his head down and wait until the lesson is over.

One problem that came up was that the teacher wanted to hear from everyone who they are and how old they are in German.

Alex had to participate, not because he wanted, but because he was forced.

After finishing the German lesson, Alex met up with Alex met up with Thomas in the schoolyard.

"A beautiful morning to you, Alex." Thomas said with a big smile.

"Good morning. I assume the Spanish lessons were a great choice" Alex greeted Thomas back.

"Of course and I assume you didn't even participate in your lesson."

"You would be wrong, Mr. Knight. I had to participate." Alex answered with a fake smile.

He took out his sandwich which he packed himself for school, because his father was asleep.

Before biting into his sandwich, he muttered the word 'Status', barely audible. The screen with his status appeared and he bit into his sandwich.

Looking at Thomas, who didn't show any signs of seeing this otherworldly thing. Alex, before biting on his sandwich again said close Status.

"Thomas, I have a question for you." Alex said putting the rest of his sandwich away.

"Sure, ask away." Thomas replied without hesitation.

"Yesterday, when I was on my phone, I read a comic about someone receiving a game like system. The boy, without any doubt, followed the orders by the system for example, it told the boy to run around for a kilometre and he did it." Alex explained.

"But I was skeptical. He didn't even doubt it and did as the system said. I wouldn't have done it." Alex continued.

"What about you?" Alex asked.

"Me? I don't know. Running a kilometre is not dangerous, so I would do it and look at the aftermath. If there was a penalty with an easy task I wouldn't risk it and do it even if I was not sure." Thomas answered.

"But what would you do if the task was a bit more open with no penalty?" Alex asked another question.

"If I saw the system I would first try to look if it was real, maybe I was imagining things. If I was unsure about the realness of the system I would like I said, look at the aftermath or visit a psychologist." Thomas replied.

"Really, I would ignore it and do nothing." Alex gave his opinion.

"Why, maybe it's real and you get punished." Thomas reasoned.

"And maybe it's all in your head." Alex responded.

"Why are you asking? Did you think about the girl yesterday, about this Monster Club?" Thomas asked.

"What? No!" Alex answered quickly.

"Let's go inside. English starts in a few minutes." Thomas pointed out.

Both boys walked inside and went to their classroom.

In the last four periods, Alex did the same thing he usually did. He was at his seat daydreaming, sometimes listening and doing the tasks he was given.

After the last period ended, which was Art, Alex was interrupted while walking outside.

Infront of him was the girl from yesterday, the one who invited him to the Monster Research Club.

"Hello, Alex, I am Steph. Your friend told me that you are interested in our Club and would like to look at how things are done here." The girl named Steph said.

"I never said any…" Before he could say anything more, Steph pulled him to the club room.

"So Alex this is our club." Steph said with excitement.

Looking inside Alex saw several Club members, excluding him and Steph there were 8 other people from different grades and classes.

"I never said anything about joining. Thomas must've lied to you." Alex said with an annoyed look.

"Even if he lied, you should at least try something new. Only because you haven't seen monsters doesn't mean they are not real." She tried to reason.

Hearing the words monsters, Alex remembered that the system also talked about monsters.

Alex agreed at looking through some of the documents the club gathered, not because Steph was convincing his reason was the system and his challenge which didn't include any detail except the place and time.

Alex spoke to no one while looking through the documents, some club member tried to talk to him, but Alex ignored them.

After some time, Alex decided to leave the room. Before he could step outside, Steph stopped him and gave him a entrance formula.

"If you want to join, fill this out and give it to me. Goodbye, Alex" Steph said, waving.

Later at home, Alex thought about his conversation with Thomas and decided to leave on Sunday to check out, why he should go to Westpark.

He also thought about the Mondster Reaserch Club, which could maybe be some help, if the monster the system talked about are the same Steph talks about.

---

On Saturday, Alex did nothing except think about his Status and the Quest.

Summoning his Status window:

——————————————

Name: Alexander Michael Dawn

Level: 4

Class: Locked

Strength: 4

Constitution: 5

Dexterity: 6

Intelligence: 7

Wisdom: 5

Charisma: 3

Skills: /

——————————————

Alex again looked at his stats. He didn't know what was good and bad. The only thing he knew was that his Charisma was bad.

But he didn't know if his intelligence was high, low or even average.

He wondered if he could level up from his challenge or if he needed to raise his stats first.

Pondering about his stats and the Quest. Alex could do nothing but think about his Quest. He couldn't even play or watch anything.

---

Being infront of Westpark, which was not as popular as the Southpark, where he and Thomas met the little boy, Alex entered the Park. Going in he received a new Message.

[Follow the path infront of you.]

Closing the message, Alex followed the path. Walking for several minutes, he received a new message.

[Please wait here until the time for the challenge arrives.]

Looking at his phone, the black haired boy saw that he had five minutes left.

Those five minutes were the longest five minutes Alex has ever experienced, worse than an exam.

Standing in place, Alex's legs began to shake. While waiting, he looked at his phone, just as he looked, the time changed from 07:59 to 08:00.

After seeing the time, Alex looked around studying his surroundings.

Several seconds later, he felt relieved. Just as he began walking back the path he he came from, a breeze came from behind and he heard several cracks.

Shivering a little from the wind, he turned around.

What he saw was that several cracks were in the air, looking as if space itself was about to break.

[Pleas enter the rift to start the challenge. A penalty will be given for not following the order.]

Reading the message, Alex faced a dilemma entering a space which could lead to anywhere or receive an unknown penalty.

He decided that a penalty which was guaranteed was worse than entering the rift, hopefully.

After deciding, the User stepped forward reaching his hand out to touch the rift.

After touching the rift, Alex's vision began to fade.
