Someone was in the Virtual World, which was strange, since they didn't seem to look like Wallace or Scott. You were gonna check it out.
But first, an explanation. The VW was like a construct within your mind, hence why you could shape it to however you liked, imagination was the limit.
So, whenever you went to sleep inside the VW, you'd simply "awaken" back up within it, but in a different body. The body created by your mind when you're dreaming.
Meanwhile, your real body is still sleeping inside the VW. Rather confusing, I know, but that's not what matters now. Let's meet Ramona, shall we?
You got out of the virtual apartment that you had constructed for yourself to sleep in, stepping outside to see the landscape you had built.
The sky was made of various pixels, the ground was made of pixelated green grass, and... well, a bunch of other things, since this world was your literal playground. You probably couldn't explore the entirety of the place.
But you knew damn well that the pink-haired girl that was casually roaming in your mindscape wasn't someone you made.
So, you grew some wings made out of video, much like your dad would do to fly, and dropped next to the girl. "So... What's up?" You greeted, casually so.
The girl braked her skates on the ground, and stared back at you, goggles on her face. "Hey. You're uh... you're having a dream." She stated, hands on her pockets, equally as casual about the whole ordeal.
"I figured. I'm a lucid dreamer, so..." You tried to continue the convo, noticing things were getting awkward. But you shrugged it off and extended your hand. "I'm Y/N, Y/N Rowe."
The girl looked at your hand for a good moment, then at you, and shook your hand with a little hesitation. "Ramona Flowers. Now, I kinda need to go somewhere, and you're delaying me, so I need to get going."
"I can help with that." You offered as you created one of those speed boots pads from Mario Kart. "You know how things like these work, right? Skate toward it, you'll get to where you're going at high speed."
"Thanks. Oh, and... nice place, by the way." Ramona thanked you as she once again skated toward her destination, stepping on the booster pad to get some extra speed. It wasn't long before she disappeared from the VW.
"Huh, that was strange." You thought, but you've seen weirder stuff happen in Seattle.
"Wyenn! Wyenn! Wake up!" You heard Scott's voice yelling at you as he shook your body awake. The real one, not the dream-but-also-made-by-you one.
"Wha- What?" You asked, rubbing your eyes and sitting up as you awoke in your real body. "How did you even get here?
"You let the portal to the Vitual World open." Scott answered hastily. "But that's not important. I saw a girl in my dreams."
You paused, looked at Scott, and asked, "You too?"
"..." You both were in silence, wondering what the heck this meant.
"We have to find out who she is." You and Scott said in unison, both of you agreeing with each other.
- Later that day, at Nippon Sushi -
You know, the sushi place, what else could it be? You had decided "why not?" and just tagged along with Scott, Wallace, and other Scott. He's like Scott, but with black hair, sideburns, and constant stubble.
"Do you want the last salmon thingy?" Wallace asked, sitting down across from Scott and beside you.
"No, you go ahead." Scott offered right back.
They've been in this back and forth for a good minute or two, which you watched as you munched on your fried rice.
"But I'm full... or am I just unbearably kind? Really, it's yours."
"No, Wallace, I insist."
"Yoink." Other Scott finally came in to snatch the salmon, to which you were secretly relieved, since you swore this would last another three minutes.
"Jeez, I thought you would keep at it for another good while." You joked, leaning against your seat.
"Other Scott deserves that more than I do." Scott smiled, probably because it was someone else named Scott.
"Damn straight." Other Scott agreed as he plopped the salmon in his mouth.
"Well, thanks for the lunch W and W." Scott added, referring to you, or your nickname, and Wallace.
"No problem, guy. Least I can do. Plus, feels nice not having to pay for the entire thing. Thanks again for hopping in on the bill, Y/N." Wallace said, pointing a finger gun at you and winking.
"It's the least I could do. Besides, I felt like getting some good karma today." You replied, and boy, what a good choice of words.
"Oh man, I just remembered. I had this totally weird dream." Scott began, but he was interrupted by other Scott.
"Excuse me, but can we skip the dream-time? Color me not interested." Other Scott intervened, which definitely got on Scott's nerves.
"I... but... it's... not... it's totally... Y... you're not the boss of... me?" Scott stuttered. To him, that lack of interest was uncalled for.
"No, guys, this really is strange." You chimed in the convo, remembering clearly what happened in the brief exchange between you and Ramona. "Me and Scott saw this girl in our dreams. Well, Scott saw it his dreams, I saw her in the Virtual World. Which... could technically also be my dreams, but you get my point."
"Since Wyenn also saw it, or her, I guess this is worth listening to." Wallace suddenly said, interested now that he knew you were part of this strange situation. "What does this mean, exactly?"
"I don't know, but it's strange that both of us saw the same girl. Scott's a bit more... disturbed by it than I am." You explained, which finally got a word out of Scott.
"...Weird." Scott said, which made other Scott shrug it off. "It doesn't matter, I'm more interested to find this girl again."
"You asked her to make out with you, didn't you?" You asked. Scott didn't answer, and that's all you needed to know. "Figured."
- Later at the bus -
"I dunno, Wyenn. What if this actually means something?" Scott asked as he sat next to you, sounding genuinely worried.
"Scott, chill. This was probably a one-time thing." You argued, arms crossed. But secretly, you were just as intrigued.
"What, like a coincidence? Sure, because people seeing the same girl in their dreams is normal." Scott snarked, a bit salty that you're not taking it all that seriously. Not on the outside, at least.
"Look, if we get this dream again, I promise I'll try to help in any way I can. Just... try to not worry about it." You insisted, a little more worried, but not something you'll lose sleep over by any means.
- Even later at Tronto Public Library, Wychwood Branch -
Scott and Knives had decided to stop by the library. No particular reason, just roaming around the town. You simply tagged along as a third wheel, because "eh, why not?"
As you stayed on the bottom floor while your friends were at the top, you spotted someone familiar walking, or rather, skating, into the library with a package.
"No freakin' way..." You thought. But you shrugged it off, waved, and greeted, "So, how did the boost pad treat you?"
In response, Ramona just looked at you, and nodded. "I made it faster to my destination. Thanks for that, um... Y/N? That was your name?"
"Yeah, most call me Wyenn, but if you want to use my real name, that's cool, too." You said, putting your hands in your pockets, but in a cool way, because she was probably cool, too.
And she picked up on that, because she briefly smiled at you. That aside, she placed the box on the desk the librarian was sitting behind. "Just sign it right- Yeah, there. Thanks."
From the corner of your eye, you could see Scott and Knives in the staircase, and Scott's eyes were as wide as saucers. Knives looked suspiciously at him, asking, "Yo, what's up? Hello?"
"Hey, you don't mind if I use your mind's subspace to get to places faster, right?" Ramona asked you, to which you shook your head.
"Nah, it's cool. You can stop by the Virtual World anytime." You assured, just being happy to give a helping hand. "So what, same time tomorrow at morning?"
You held out your closed hand for a fist bump. And surprisingly, Ramona reciprocated. "Sure. Anyone who makes my job easier is a friend." She said with a small smile, and both of you nodded at each other before she left.
Though, you could've sworn you felt Scott and Knives shooting glares at Ramona, with the latter being rather jealous. But that probably won't have consequences later on, right? Right?
- Again, later that day, at Stephen's house -
"Scott? Scott!" Stephen shouted at the bassist, who seemed to be stuck in a daydream. "Scott.... you only played one note for that entire song."
"I was... uh... my hand slipped?" Scott said, clearly disoriented and distracted.
"Is your girlfriend distracting you?" Kim snarked with no hint of amusement.
"I'll be quieter!" Knives apologized, visibly worried.
You, on the other hand, were starting to see something shady in Scott. Ever since the dream he presumably had with Ramona, he's been acting strange.
"Let's do that again." Stephen said, focused on what mattered to him.
"Waffle..." Scott simply replied as he stared off into the void.
"Um... I need to take a break. I already have all theatrics down and whatnot, so can I just sit and watch?" You spoke up, and received a nod from Stephen.
"You're basically the backbone of the majority of the attention this band gets. You more than deserve it, Y/N." Stephen reassured, preparing to play once again.
You simply walked over to the couch, sat next to Knives, and talked to her. "'Sup, Knives?"
"Oh, Wyenn! What's up?" Knives asked, smiling at you.
You got a little nervous, and wondered what to say next. It seemed as if everything slowed down, and you saw two choices pop in your head:
- Speak up about your suspicions
Knives needs to know now that Scott is starting to look shady. Knives and you may have met not long ago, but you've known Scott long enough from you to know this meant nothing good.
- Keep quiet
Knives needs to know nothing. So what if you think Scott's shady? This is none of your business. You have no solid proof anyway, so what gives? Just shut up, things will sort themselves out. You jump to conclusions too fast.
"Knives deserves to know. She's still young, she doesn't need her entire view on love shattered all at once just because she didn't see how Scott was acting." You thought. Okay, maybe it didn't go that deep, but you got the point.
So, you steeled yourself, reached for her coat, handed it, and subtly signaled that you wanted to talk outside. Knives, although confused, complied. Good timing, since she didn't want to be a "distraction to Scott".
"Is something wrong, Wyenn?" Knives innocently asked, which made your heart quench in guilt.
"Well, not yet, per-se..." You looked back at her, taking a moment to reconsider whether this was a good idea or not.
But already chose what you would do. No going back now. The only thing you can do is commit. So, you took a deep breath, exhaled, and looked Knives straight in the eyes.
"Scott may be acting strange, I don't know if you've noticed." You opened up slowly, not wanting to dump every single one of your suspicions to Knives. "Me and Scott had this dream today, of a girl with pink hair."
Knives leaned her head to the side, like a confused puppy trying to understand what you're trying to teach it. But you swallowed your guilt deeper and pushed forward, "I'm not saying Scott is starting to get obsessed, but..."
"...look, it's just theories, but I can't leave you in the dark about this. I'll explain everything I can, I promise." You were quickly running out of ways to stall the main topic, and you could tell she was getting worried the more you talked.
"Wh-what are you saying?" Knives asked, and the tone she used made you feel like an arrow pierced your heart. Not in the romantic way, but in the "oh no, this is gonna hurt to say..." way.
"Okay, here it is. The girl I was talking about is real. I've seen her, Scott's seen her. She's the one he and I are seeing in our dreams." You started, and as you feared, Knives' eyes widened in shock. "And I don't want to jump to conclusions, but... this is looking pretty fishy."
Knives was speechless, and you could tell she was in denial, so you added, "Don't panic, I can just... um... watch over him. Y-yeah, and I can try to make sure he's okay. I'll report back every day, so..."
"..."
"Knives?"
"...Thanks, Wyenn." Knives replied, looking down at her shoes. "I trust you, and I believe you...I just hope you're wrong about Scott, or..." She paused.
You didn't want to think about the possible outcome. You were hoping for the best, but you were fearing the worst.
"Don't worry, Knives. I'll let you know if something comes up." You assured, and offered her a high-five. One which she quickly reciprocated, though with a lack of energy.
"Yeah... thanks, Wyenn. Talk to you soon." Knives waved at you as she stepped inside, and you waved back, sighing and leaning against the wall.
On one side, you felt accomplished and relieved she took to the news fairly well, despite everything.
But on the other, you were starting to grow concerned about Scott. You really hoped that you were just thinking too much, and that there's a reasonable explanation to all this.
+ Good Karma!
- Next day, morning -
You were in the Virtual World again, your real body sleeping as always. So, with your virtual body, you passed the time by doing whatever was that popped into your mind. This was a world you could control, after all.
You figured this was a good time to train, so you summoned some enemies and practiced your techniques using the chain around your wrist as a whip, which previously belonged to your dad, Delsin.
It basically was a family heirloom, one that made you wonder how the heck your dad used a chain to fight, or rather, how a chain can even be a weapon, but whatever. When you thought about it, anything could be a weapon if you used it violently enough.
After a few minutes of beating up the generic videogame demons from Heaven's Hellfire, you saw Ramona skating into the VW.
"Oh, Ramona! Back again?" You greeted, and waved.
"Yeah, you did say I can stop by whenever." Ramona replied and nodded in response. "Nice chain-whip."
"Thanks. It belonged to my dad," you said, swinging the chain around, "and I dunno, he could whip around and fight with it, so..."
"Anyways, where are you headed today?" You asked, curious as to what would be a destination this time.
"That direction, somewhere on the south." Ramona answered, pointing behind her.
"Alright, cool. Let's get you there, fast." You said, wrapping the chain around your wrist and using video to create a boost pad toward the direction she pointed.
"You have any more tricks under your sleeves?" Ramona asked, and you had to think a little.
"Yeah, but not right now. By the way, I'll be going to someone's party. Julie Powers, specifically. You going?" You explained, and asked her.
"Might stop by." Ramona shrugged, and got on the pad. "See ya."
"See ya." You echoed, and sent herself flying off at high speed, and off the VW.
You were happy she was cool with you, seemingly. Though, you wondered if you should let Scott know about it. Maybe he was a bit too... obsessed, to put it mildly. And speaking of Scott...
"Wyenn!" And there he was, shaking your shoulder and trying to wake you up, just like yesterday morning.
"Jeez, you really need to learn how to wait." You said, groaning, but waking up.
"What does it look like I'm doing?" Scott joked, and you rolled your eyes, then stood up.
"Let me guess, you saw the girl from your dreams again? Pink hair, glasses, and roller skates?" You asked, and you knew the answer.
"Yeah, we have to find her. You know, get to the bottom of this, and stuff." Scott suggested, and you had to ask...
"Really? Get to the bottom of this. Right..." You thought, before saying aloud, "Who is 'we'? Because it feels like you're the only one interested."
"Hey, you've been looking forward to this, too!" Scott argued, and you had to admit he was kinda right.
"I guess. But the only reason I'm not jumping at the chance is because, and let's be honest here, I don't make a big deal about it." You said, and that's when an idea came to your head. "Unless... are you hiding something from me, Scott?"
"I'm hiding nothing. I just think this is an important thing, and we shouldn't ignore it. That's all." Scott defended, and you sighed.
"Do whatever you want. But I'm gonna keep an eye on you." You warned, pointing at him.
"Alright, alright." Scott said as he put his hands in the air in surrender, and you went to the bathroom to change.
You looked at what the outfit was. It was your father's clothes from when he was younger. You were a quick grower, so it didn't take long for you to be able to fit in them.
In order of putting them on, it consisted of a red flannel shirt, blue jeans, white socks, black shoes with two yellow stripes on the sides, a black hoodie, a jean vest with a few pins, and to top things off, a red beanie with "Seattle 138" written on a black rectangle.
As you put on the beanie, you saw your reflection in the mirror. You thought back to yesterday, and wondered if you were making the right choice.
"I hope I'm wrong too, Knives... for all our sakes." You muttered to yourself, and left the bathroom. You were going to attend Julie's party, and yeah, you were invited.
Sure, she was known for being the biggest bitch in Toronto, but that didn't mean you couldn't be cool with her.
You would even go as far as to say that, despite your acquaintance with Scott, she was a decent friend. Yeah, "friend" is the word I'm using here, believe it or not.
- At night, later that day -
"I'm cooooold!" Scott whined as he, you and the rest of the Sex Bob-Omb crew walked towards the house that the party was in.
"Whatever, it's like spring out." Kim said, not impressed.
"I'm wearing less cover than you, and I'm not that cold." You retorted, and he just pouted.
"Said the guy with smoke powers to keep themselves warm." Scott shot back.
"Fair enough." You said, and yeah, you had absorbed smoke earlier, so no feeling the cold.
"...Where are we goooing?" Scott cried, likely not remembering what you were all doing.
"I told you like fifty times!" Stephen groaned, obviously annoyed.
"Well, I forgot, okay?!" Scott retorted in a defensive manner.
"Like it's my fault you're stupid?" Stephen replied, and yeah, he kinda had a point.
"So where-" Scott spoke, but got cut off by Stephen.
"I'm seriously not telling you now." Stephen interrupted, just about done with the bassist's forgetfulness.
"Ay ay ay... We're going to-" You began, but Kim cut you off as well.
"We're going to that party, retard." Kim reminded, although the word she used was rather harsh.
"We're going to Julie's." You finished, and Scott's eyes widened in realization.
"Aw, man..." Scott grumbled, and you patted his back.
- At the party -
The party was already going on, and there were a bunch of people, both from the schools and the general public. And you were cool with all of them, or at least didn't have a problem with them.
Scott had even introduced you to the odd combo of mixing orange juice with a cold cola. And you had to admit, for what it sounded like, it tasted pretty good. Fizzy, sweet, and the taste of orange was definitely there.
You were talking with a tiny group of friends, all of whom were cool. From the corner of your eye, you saw Scott approaching Micheal Comeau, or just Comeau, and you decided to see what all the fuss was about.
"Yooo, Comeau." You greeted, approaching the two.
"Wyenn, my man!" Comeau exclaimed, standing up and giving you high-five, which resonated a loud, yet friendly "clap".
"That's what I'm talking about! So what're you two up to?" You asked, sitting down.
"I'm just here out of boredom." Scott explained, shrugging. "By the way, Comeau, you know everyone, right?"
"Well, I wouldn't say everyone, but yeah, I guess." Comeau said, taking a sip of the beer he held.
"Okay, this might sound vague, but do you know a girl with hair like this?" Scott asked, using his fingers to make a messy drawing in the air, presumably of Ramona's hairstyle.
"You mean Ramona?" Comeau, surprisingly, answered correctly.
"Uh... I don't know, maybe?" Scott said, unsure how to react to the fact he got the name right.
"Yeah, man, Ramona Flowers. Someone said she was coming down tonight, actually. You should look around. You got the hots for her? I hear she's hardcore." Comeau explained, and wow, how the heck did he know.
"Wait up, she's here? Dude, I gotta go look for her!" Scott exclaimed, and ran off.
You, however, remained sitting next to Comeau, and you already began feeling worried thinking about what Scott was thinking, trying to look for Ramona. Worry that Comeau picked up as he asked, "Wyenn? Everything alright?"
"Eh... not really, no. It's about Ramona. Scott saw her in his dreams, and apparently, I've seen her in mine, too. I talked to her yesterday in the library. She seemed fine, though." You explained, and Comeau listened.
"So, what? Is he, like, crushing on her or something?" He asked, and you shrugged.
"I mean, I really don't want to call it that, but... I have a feeling, y'know? That feeling when something is gonna go sour, but you don't wanna admit it, and just pray it won't go through." You admitted, and yeah, it was starting to feel like it.
"Well, this is Scott, you're justified to think he might fuck up." Comeau said, and well, yeah, he had a point.
"Whatever the case, can you tell me more about Ramona? I mean, I've talked to her before, but not that much." You asked, and he nodded.
"I heard she's American, like you. She's been in town for at least a few couple weeks." Comeau answered, and you tilted your head. "I'm not really not sure if she just moved here, or if she's just visiting. Maybe you should ask Sandra and Monique. I think I saw Flowers talking to them earlier."
"Good idea. Thanks, Comeau." You said, and stood up, looking around the place.
