Chapter 18: Wolves in Silk

Zayne chuckled at her response, pushing off the doorway. "I like you, sweetheart. You've got teeth."

Raine smirked. "Good. You'll need them to keep up."

Kairo let out a soft laugh, shaking his head. "Look at you two. Like wolves circling each other."

Zayne tilted his head, his sharp gaze landing on Kairo. "Funny, coming from you. You're the biggest predator in this building."

Kairo simply smiled, the type that didn't reach his eyes. Unbothered. Unreadable. Dangerous.

Raine sighed, already tired of the tension thickening the air. Too many games. Too many masks.

"Are we done with the dramatic staring contest?" she asked.

Zayne smirked. "For now." He slid his hands into his pockets. "But don't get too comfortable, Raine. You might think you're in control, but trust me—this world? It eats people like you alive."

Raine's expression didn't waver. If only he knew.

She had already died once. What was there left to fear?

As she walked past them, she muttered just loud enough for them to hear—"Then let it try."
