The emptiness

Lylie stood on the balcony of the castle, arms crossed as she watched Michael and his men disappear down the long road leading away from the capital. The morning sun bathed everything in a golden glow, but it did little to soothe the frustration twisting inside her.

A whole week? Maybe longer?

She scoffed, spinning on her heel. "Unbelievable."

She stormed back into the royal chambers, her silk robe billowing behind her. The room felt colder without him. The bed, still messy from the night before, felt too big. And worst of all—she was bored.

Utterly and completely bored.

She flopped onto the bed, staring at the ceiling.

"What does he expect me to do? Sit here like some perfectly behaved queen and twiddle my thumbs?"
