Chapter 3

Liar heard this but didn't show the slightest hint of concern. "You should take a taxi to the hospital yourself. I really can't leave the office right now."

Up until the moment I closed my eyes, I couldn't understand why Liar's attitude towards me had done a complete 180.

Just before I left home, he still loved me so much.

When I opened my eyes again, I found myself miraculously lying in a hospital bed.

The difference this time from the last was that the first person I saw when I opened my eyes wasn't Liar, but my best friend.

If it weren't for my bestie coming to bring me some health supplements, I probably would have died at home.

As soon as my best friend saw me wake up, she immediately ran to my side with tears in her eyes. "You're awake?"

I nodded weakly, wanting to speak but finding I had no strength left to make a sound.

My bestie gently squeezed my hand. "Do you know how worried I've been about you..."

"The doctor said you ate something bad. You almost had a miscarriage..."

Hearing the word "miscarriage," my entire body started shaking uncontrollably.

This was the second time I had nearly miscarried due to food.

"What on earth did you eat?" My best friend furrowed her brow, deeply concerned. "Next time you eat, you really need to be more careful."I awkwardly recalled everything I had just eaten, listing off each dish to her one by one.

"Sweet and sour ribs, cranberry stir-fry..."

"Cranberry!" my best friend repeated in disbelief. "You ate cranberries?"

"Yeah, what's wrong? My husband made it for me."

My friend let out a cold laugh. "Is your husband trying to harm you? Pregnant women aren't supposed to eat cranberries."

Her words left me stunned.

Still, I kept defending Liar. "He probably just didn't know. How could it be intentional?"

"Think about it yourself," my friend said, gently patting my shoulder. "Whatever the case, I hope you'll be more careful."

Even then, I still thought my friend was just overthinking things.

"I'm fine now, let's go home."

I forced a smile and tugged at my friend's hand.

My friend sighed, not saying anything more.

As we walked out of the hospital entrance, I finally remembered to call Liar and let him know I was okay.

The first time I called, Liar didn't answer.

On the second try, he slowly picked up.

"What's up?"The phone on the other end, Liar seemed to have forgotten about me being in the hospital.

I smiled bitterly, "I just got out of the hospital and I'm heading home now. I wanted to tell you not to worry about me."

At this moment, Liar suddenly remembered.

"I'm sorry, darling. I've been so busy, I forgot about that."

"After you get home, go to sleep quickly. I'll be back a bit later tonight!"

After hanging up the phone, my mind started to race.

Liar, what exactly are you up to?

Why are you acting so strange tonight?

I quickly composed myself and said to my best friend with a smile, "Let's go home."

Once I got home, I lay down on the bed to rest.

I stared at the pristine white ceiling, unable to fall asleep.

I zoned out for nearly four hours, my mind constantly dwelling on tonight's events.

"Click—"
