Cara’s POV
I felt the heat rise to my cheeks as the clerk glanced at me with suspicion. The machine’s refusal to process my card was beyond embarrassing. “What’s going on?” she asked, concern etched on her face. I could feel the weight of her gaze, and it made me angrier.
“There’s no way this card isn’t valid!” I snapped, my frustration bubbling over. “It has to work.” I needed to regain control of the situation, to remind everyone of my status.
“Excuse me for a moment,” I muttered, trying to hide my irritation as I stepped away to a quieter corner of the store. I could feel Sibel’s eyes on me, and it only fueled my anger further.
Pulling out my phone, I dialed Leo’s number, my hands trembling slightly. I needed answers. “Leo,” I said urgently when he picked up. “What the hell is going on? I just tried to use the card you gave me, and it’s not working!”
"I'm sorry, Cara, it's frozen," Leo said on the other side of the phone.
