Chapter 19: Witchcraft

Karl concealed the truth.

He did lose consciousness for long, but it was only for a short time.

Before the fire burned everything, he regained consciousness and turned over Miles' body, and got this gem ring from the body.

As a noble, he had the privilege of being exempt from body search, so he kept it hidden on his body without being discovered.

But this could not hide it from the perception of a senior wizard apprentice.

"Magic item."

Adolf took the ring and stroked the gem on it, with regret in his eyes: "It is blessed with the zero-ring witchcraft Banshee's Howl, which can deter beings below the knight level, and even has a certain effect on knights. Unfortunately, it is a bit damaged, and I am afraid it will not be used many times."

Compared with when Karl just got it, the royal blue jade is much darker, and there are several cracks on the surface.

Using magic items to cast witchcraft will consume durability.

"I can get two magic stones for this magic item, or..." Adolf said: "Exchange it from me for a zero-ring witchcraft."

"I choose witchcraft." Karl answered immediately.

"A smart choice." Adolf nodded, took out a piece of brown paper, pointed at it and said: "You can choose one of them."

Karl lowered his head and looked at the brown paper.

There were six kinds of witchcraft on it.

Arcane Missiles, Lesser Mage's Hand, Lesser Magic Field, Poison, Stun and a Paralysis.

There were only the names of the witchcraft.

"Teacher."

Karl frowned and asked: "Can you introduce these witchcraft?"

Based on the names alone, he could only guess the direction of the witchcraft by feeling, but he didn't know the specific difficulty of practice, the power of the witchcraft, etc.

And some witchcraft were hard to guess just by looking at the name.

"Karl."

Adolf shook his head gently: "This is your first class. In the wizard world, any knowledge must be paid."

"Including the introduction of witchcraft."

Obviously, the other party did not intend to tell for free.

"This..." Karl frowned, thought for a moment and then said: "When fighting with Miles, there was an invisible force protecting him. I want to learn that witchcraft."

At that time, Miles performed three kinds of witchcraft. One was to add a layer of sharp halo to the sword, which could easily cut the flesh.

The second was an invisible force field that could distort attacks and affect others. The third was a mental attack with the help of magic weapons.

Compared with the other two, Karl hoped that he could master the second one. After all, this kind of witchcraft could save his life, and how to survive in danger was the key.

"You are very smart." Adolf admired Karl's reaction: "That witchcraft is called secondary magic force field. It is the most cost-effective one among the six zero-ring witchcrafts. You can also learn the corresponding advanced witchcraft later."

"Tim!"

"Teacher." Tim stepped forward.

"Go and take him to get the witchcraft books." Adolf said.

"The Nine Rings Tower bears witness that any witchcraft learned from me cannot be taught to others without my permission until the end of my life."

The latter sentence was said to Karl.

Although it did not say what the consequences would be if witchcraft was taught to others privately, it would not be a good thing.

"Yes."

The two agreed.

"When you get familiar with him, you will know that the mentor is actually easy to talk to." Leaving the side hall, Tim led the way in front, saying as he walked,

"Don't think he is too harsh."

"No." Karl shook his head, "I think this is good."

If a stranger is very enthusiastic about him, he will suspect that the other party is up to something.

Adolf takes money to do things, and people can never find fault with him.

"That's good."

Tim nodded and stood in front of a wall. There was a painting on the wall. The painting showed a woman with gorgeous clothes and dignified appearance.

"Gina."

He spoke to the portrait: "Please open the door."

"Tim, I haven't seen you for a while." In Karl's astonishment, the woman in the painting rolled her eyes like a living person and waved at him: "Young man, you look unfamiliar!"

"This... this..." Karl's eyes widened and he stammered: "Is the painting talking?"

"You are ignorant." The woman in the painting rolled her eyes and said: "I am a magic servant, created by a real wizard, and I am Adolf's heirloom. It seems that you, little guy, have just come into contact with the world of wizards."

"Yes."

Tim nodded: "Karl is the new student of the mentor. I will take him to get some books."

"Okay!"

The woman in the painting shrugged and waved her hand lightly to her side, and the wall moved to one side by itself.

It also revealed the luxurious study room inside that was comparable to a library.

Karl, who saw this scene for the first time, was stunned on the spot and walked forward like a puppet.

"'General Explanation of Force Field Knowledge', 'Principles of Arcane Magic', 'General Rules for Wizards', and also 'Deep Sea Meditation Method'."

Tim pulled out books from the bookshelf and piled them in Karl's hands.

"Wizards pursue knowledge and truth. Every wizard has a study, and you will have one in the future, too."

"Hmm!"

Karl snorted, looking at the books in his hands that were as thick as an English dictionary, his face bitter: "I don't have to learn all of them, do I?"

How long will it take to learn this?

"You don't have to be proficient, but you have to know it." Tim said seriously: "Whether it is meditation or witchcraft, you can't be careless at all, otherwise you may not only kill yourself."

"Don't think it's troublesome. You can learn a shorthand to help you study and save time. But remembering is remembering, and understanding is understanding. There is a big difference between the two."

"Then..." Karl frowned: "Generally speaking, how long does it take to learn a witchcraft?"

"It depends on the person." Tim paused with his cane and replied: "Some people can learn a zero-ring witchcraft in a few months, while others need several years to learn it, and some people may not be able to master it in their entire lives."

"For example, I..."

"The first witchcraft I learned was Arcane Missile, which took me a full six months. The second one was much faster with experience."

"Ah!" Karl was stunned.

He really didn't expect it to take so long. It seems that learning witchcraft is much more complicated than practicing swordsmanship.

"You are not in a hurry to learn witchcraft now." Tim said: "Learn meditation first. When you have mastered meditation and your mental strength is stable, you will be qualified to learn witchcraft."

"Let's go!"

"Brother Tim..." Karl followed quickly: "How long will it take to master meditation?"

"Different talents require different amounts of time."

Tim was not like his mentor Adolf who talked about money everywhere, or that every wizard apprentice knew this common sense. He introduced casually.

"Level one talent can be mastered in half a month at most, while level two talent requires at least two to three months. My talent level is level three, and it took me a year to master meditation."

Although the other party did not say how long it would take for level four talent, it was obviously more time-consuming than level three.

Karl's expression could not help but become ugly.

"Don't worry."

Seeing his face change, Tim comforted him: "I was very young when I learned meditation. I didn't know much. Adults have better understanding ability, so the time required should be reduced accordingly."

"Maybe..."

"You can learn meditation in a few months."

"And talent is only useful in the wizard apprentice realm. It won't matter when you become a formal wizard."

Having said that, he just said it to comfort him, and didn't think Karl had a chance to become a formal wizard.

Level 4 talent is only slightly better than level 5 talent, which is barely enough to be promoted to wizard apprentice.

The potential is simply too low!

Karl didn't say anything.

On the way back, he hugged a pile of books, and his mood couldn't calm down for a long time. Many distracting thoughts came one after another.

Weird wizard books!

Mysterious wizards!

Magical witchcraft!

Talking portraits!

It was like suddenly stepping into a wonderful world, and many unprecedented scenes came into view one by one.

"No matter what, I have more talent to become a wizard than many people. I'll try to practice meditation first." Karl was not discouraged.

Although his talent was not very good, he had a golden finger.
