Wang Ben returned to the training camp and immediately gathered everyone. As he looked at the youthful faces in the formation, his heart felt as if it had been turned upside down. There was a mix of emotions—sour, sweet, bitter, and all sorts of feelings.
Taking a deep breath to steady himself, Wang Ben said, "When I call your name, step forward. Yu Bin!"
"Here!" A new recruit stepped out of line.
"Zheng Guo!"
"Here..."
Wang Ben called out eight names in a row, all the top-performing recruits. But when he reached the ninth name, he hesitated, standing silently for a while before calling out a name, "Wang Zhen!"
"Here!" Wang Zhen stepped forward without hesitation.
Wang Ben hesitated again, scanning the formation. His gaze finally landed on the last person, "Qin Hu!"
"Here!" Qin Hu, puzzled, stepped out of line immediately.
Wang Ben breathed a sigh of relief. "The ten of you step forward, the rest disperse!"
The recruits scattered, and the remaining ten lined up again. Under Wang Ben's lead, they left the training grounds and soon entered a much smaller hall.
Wang Ben stopped and turned to face them. He got straight to the point, "I called you here because you'll be part of a mission the day after tomorrow. I'll take you to pick up your gear, and you'll have one day to familiarize yourselves with it. We leave tomorrow morning... Any questions?"
"Report! I have one!" Qin Hu immediately spoke up, full of indignation.
He didn't know what the mission was, but after finally escaping Lan Jing, he just wanted to live a peaceful life for a few days. He didn't want to go back at all.
Wang Ben's eyelids twitched. "Speak!"
"I want to know what the mission is!" Qin Hu demanded.
"The details are classified. I don't know either. Next!"
"Report, I still have questions!"
"Speak!"
"Why am I called up?" Qin Hu asked, not looking at anyone else. "They've got the best training results, but I'm at the bottom. Why was I chosen?"
Wang Ben smirked, "I can see through your little schemes. Fine, since you asked, I'll explain. First, you're more familiar with the outside situation, which might help with the mission. Secondly, you should know what your training results are. Any other questions?"
Qin Hu felt guilty but still stubbornly argued, "Yes, I shouldn't be here!"
"Then you can go back to confinement for seven days!" Wang Ben said without hesitation.
Qin Hu immediately caved, "I'll go! I'll go, alright?"
He didn't mind seven days of confinement; what he really feared was the half a steamed bun he'd get per day. The thought of going hungry was too much for him.
Wang Ben sneered, "Anyone else have a problem?"
This time, no one spoke, not even Wang Zhen.
Though they had only trained for a short time, they understood what military discipline meant. Only Qin Hu, the new guy, had so many complaints.
"Good, now follow me!" Wang Ben led them forward. After passing through several more halls, they arrived at two guards, who opened a locked door for them.
Wang Ben confirmed their identities, and the guards let them through. Inside, they were shocked to find a room filled with armor and weaponry.
Wang Ben was the first to walk in. "Each of you take a set of armor, pick your weapons quickly!"
The recruits were ecstatic, almost overwhelmed with happiness as they rushed into the room, like mice in a rice bin. Even Qin Hu couldn't contain his excitement.
Every boy dreams of being a hero, and armor is a central part of those dreams!
Military armor, also known as powered armor, is one of the fleet's basic pieces of equipment. Despite its light weight and thin design, it offers incredibly strong protection, allowing the wearer to function normally even in a vacuum.
Qin Hu felt a wave of relief. If he had actually gone back earlier, he would have missed out on the armor. He would have regretted it forever.
His sharp eyes scanned the shelves, but he couldn't find an armor set that fit.
He was still growing, and his body wasn't exactly standard.
Just then, Wang Zhen waved at him from the corner. "Qin Hu, over here!"
Qin Hu hurried over, and Wang Zhen pointed to a set of armor. "This one fits you!"
Qin Hu was overjoyed, looking at the armor as if he couldn't get enough of it.
However, when his eyes fell on the left chest of the armor, he froze. There was a nameplate with two characters: "Lu Chen!"
He vaguely remembered this name—it belonged to a soldier from Wang Zuo's team.
How could this armor be here?
All his excitement faded away like water washing away dirt. Qin Hu turned around abruptly to look at Wang Ben.
Wang Ben noticed him and slowly walked over. "What's wrong?"
Qin Hu pointed at the nameplate. "I know him... How did his armor end up here?"
"He... sacrificed," Wang Ben said, his voice quiet but clear. "All the armor here is patched together. Every part once belonged to a fallen hero."
He didn't hide the truth, and everyone heard it. The recruits froze in place, unsure how to react.
Qin Hu's heart trembled. His lips quivered, but he didn't say anything.
Wang Ben turned and clapped his hands, drawing everyone's attention. "Did you all pick your gear? If you're done, don't put it on yet. Take the armor and follow me; I'll show you how to wear it. Also, pick your weapons—choose what you're most familiar with!"
A recruit raised a laser rifle and complained, "But it doesn't have any batteries!"
"Yeah, and no ammo either!" another recruit chimed in.
"We're not leaving yet, so why do you need batteries?" Wang Ben glared at them. "You'll get them when we depart!"
Now everyone understood, and Qin Hu muttered under his breath, "So they're preparing for us to be on guard?"
Wang Zhen nudged Qin Hu with his shoulder. "What are you saying? It's a rule. If we actually get the gear, what if someone accidentally shoots someone else?"
Qin Hu shrugged. "I know. I was just saying."
Wang Zhen inserted a pistol into his waist. "You've been staring at it for a while. Have you made your choice?"
Qin Hu spread his hands. "Not yet. I'm having trouble deciding!" He had a ion rifle on his left and an automatic rifle on his right, unsure which to pick.
Wang Zhen immediately understood. He grabbed the automatic rifle and placed it in Qin Hu's hands. "Trust me, use this one!"
Qin Hu looked at the ion rifle with reluctance in his eyes.
Wang Zhen smiled. "Stop staring. This one's not right for you."
"What's wrong with it?" Qin Hu grumbled, still gazing at the ion rifle. He couldn't resist wanting it so much!
