I. The Price of Power
Xiao Chen woke to fire and screaming.
His body felt foreign—muscles too dense, bones too heavy, veins humming with something darker than blood. The Heavenly Demon's corruption had seeped deeper than he'd realized. When he flexed his fingers, black talons sprouted for a heartbeat before retracting.
Leng Xueyi's hand clamped around his wrist. "Look at me."
Her frost-blue eyes were bloodshot, her robes torn. Behind her, the remnants of Black Heaven Academy burned under the Vermilion Bird Empire's cannons.
"You've been out for three days," she said. "The Demon… it changed you."
Xiao Chen touched his face. His canines were sharper. His pupils slit like a reptile's.
Mei Ling crawled forward, her venom-mutated body twitching. "The Emperor's fleet is hunting us. They're calling you 'The Fiend Prince' now."
Princess Luo Ying lounged against a shattered pillar, her Solar Phoenix preening its singed feathers. "Father's pissed. You ate part of his god."
Xiao Chen stood, his Abyss-Shell Predator stirring in his inner space—bigger now, nearly SS-rank, its shell etched with Fiendish scripture.
"Good," he said. "Let's give him more to fear."
II. The Fugitives' Gambit
They fled through the Ashen Wastes, a no-man's-land where the empire's laws didn't reach.
Key Scenes:
The Sand Reapers
A nomadic tribe of Genome thieves ambushed them at dusk.
Xiao Chen let the Demon out for ten seconds.
Result: 47 dead. 1 survivor—a Fiend-blooded girl with knife-hands who kneeled instantly.
Leng Xueyi's Ultimatum
"The Demon is eating you alive," she hissed, pinning him against a ruin. "I didn't swear to follow a monster."
Xiao Chen kissed her—teeth drawing blood.
Her frost blade froze his ribs in warning, but she didn't pull away.
Mei Ling's Devotion
She began collecting the corpses' fingers, stringing them into a necklace.
"For luck," she giggled, offering it to Xiao Chen.
III. The Emperor's Trap
On the fifth night, the Sky-Scorch Battleship appeared.
A floating fortress of crimson steel, its deck swarmed with elite cultivators in phoenix-winged armor. At its prow stood Emperor Zhu Yan himself, his SSS-rank Vermilion Bird Genome casting a godlike glow.
"Xiao Chen," his voice boomed. "You stole from Heaven. Now, you die."
The cannons fired.
Xiao Chen grabbed Mei Ling and Luo Ying, Shadow Stepping through the barrage. Leng Xueyi froze an entire salvo midair, her new Frost Serpent Genome (replaced her dead phoenix) coiling protectively.
Then—the trap sprung.
General Wu wasn't dead.
His mutilated body lunged from the smoke, his gryphon Genome now Fiend-corrupted, its beak sinking into Xiao Chen's shoulder.
"The Emperor sends his regards," Wu gurgled, detonating a Qi-implosion pill.
The blast vaporized the canyon.
IV. The Demon's Bargain
Xiao Chen woke in total darkness.
The Heavenly Demon loomed over him, its blade-fingers carving new runes into his flesh.
"You're dying," it said. "But I can save you. For a price."
Xiao Chen coughed black blood. "How much?"
The Demon smiled.
"Another 10%. Twenty-two total."
Outside, Xiao Chen could hear Leng Xueyi screaming his name, Mei Ling sobbing, Luo Ying cursing.
He closed his eyes.
"Do it."
V. The Reckoning
When Xiao Chen stood, his left arm was no longer human.
Obsidian claws. Veins pulsing with liquid shadow.
General Wu stumbled back. "What—?"
Xiao Chen moved.
His Demon-arm pierced Wu's chest, ripping out his spine.
The Vermilion Bird Emperor finally looked uneasy.
Xiao Chen licked blood from his claws.
"Who's next?"
