Chapter 24: The Past's Ghosts
They made it back to the base, but Pragya couldn't shake the feeling that something was following them. The Memory Chip had granted him visions—glimpses of past lives, past revolutions. It was like a haunted dream. He saw faces, battles, decisions made in the heat of war, and those who had failed, their legacies lost to time. He had to make sure that didn't happen again.
The chip had opened up a gateway to the past, but it also felt like it was holding him hostage. Each time he connected with the memories of those who came before him, the Earth's voice grew stronger, more insistent.
"Pragya," Oracle's voice echoed in his mind, "you must be careful. Not all of Earth's past is worth remembering. Some memories are better left buried."
Pragya frowned. "What do you mean?"
"There are dangers in history. Things you don't understand. Forces that have shaped the world... dark forces."
Before Pragya could respond, the air around him turned cold. A shadow flickered in the corner of his vision, a dark figure that seemed to pulse with energy—just like the chips. It was as though the past was alive, reaching out to him, trying to pull him in.
"Okay, that's it," Pragya muttered, grabbing his head as the voices in his mind grew louder. "I'm going to need a vacation after all of this."
