"Kamila Dickson, from GLENWOOD. I am the defendants lawyer and I've come to search the house." I saw to the guard at the front door. He grinned as if he had been expecting me. He pass a metal detector over my body and pushed some keys on the door lock.
The house...
If I said magnificent, it would be an understatement. I can't search my head too much for the right words to describe a house that I have come to search. Obviously there other things to focus on.
There were five other men in black in the living room. They sat on the couch, already looking expctant. I didn't have to explain myself before one of them spoke.
"Over here. I'll take you to his study. He was murdered there."I followed the lean blonde who had spoken on seeing me. He had this unhealthy haircut and his hair colour, reddish orange. A perfect shade of fire.
I decided to ignore his hair and focus.
"You're are the lawyer who is finally taking the case."He said while he led me through this unending hallway.
"Yes."
"I feel so bad for my boss. He never deserved to die that way. He was the best thing in this world. It's already two weeks since he died. And i doubt if you'll find anything new in that murder scene. The policed have scratch it all up."
I was quiet.
"Are you taking this alone?"
I was quiet. He finally got to a door and punched some keys.
"Here we are."He announced an d allowed my passage. Would I call it a library. My study isn't as elaborate as this. It even had a bed in it.
"She stabbed him right here. Straight in the heart. That arsehole."
He pointed to a spot on the ground very close to the door. Okay, so he wasn't killed on his grand chair. My playful subsconcious noted.
I quickly got to work. I started with the shelves. Filled with books, which surprisingly had no trace of dust on. How may time have this place been cleaned after his death?
Just as I had expected I found nothybut books on those shelves and when I tried the drawers, I saw they were all locked.
"Where are these locked?"
"The police have the keys. " He said. "You know it's really strange that you chose to do a cop's job because you think they aren't doing it well. It might after all be a waste of time, Miss Dickson."
"You know my name?"
"I saw you when you entered, you introducwd yourself to the ones at the door. I was watching."
"CCTV?"
Not strange. I had expected more.
"I should introduce myself. I'm Baker. I was his Cee Es Ooo..."
That meant CSO, chief security officer.
"And I can boast of my closeness with the late Jude Kam anywhere and anytime. You can ask me what you are looking for in here. I'll help you find it "
"Actually ehm."I swallowed. "I don't have anything in mind. I've just come to search the house for..."
Any leads?
How would that sound to a lame man. I purposely trailed off.
"If you have the time, we can have a talk for a moment."He suggested.
"Here?"
"Sure."He sat on the couch and I reluctantly took the one on the opposite side.
"I have questions. May I?"Baker said.
"Sure "I said qith all professionalism. I was beginning to feel uncomfortable but I just had to stay calm.
"Why are you taking up this case? Why are you defending Paige Kam?"
"It's my job "I simply said.
"No it's not."He retorted. "You're just a lawyer, not a detective. You are supposed to be working on evidences not blank lines. Blank lines that you have to fill for yourself."
He sounded exactly like mark. There are a lot of marks out there, Kamila.
"Well..."Then I went silent.
It's a culture my grandmother taught me once. You should not speak when you don't have to. Only a fool spills our all that he thinks.
"Your client confessed to the crime. Maybe I should narrate how it happened to you."
That is it. I need the narration.
"Paige asked that she wanted to see her Godfather and we told her he was at his study. The doors in her are noise proof and you wouldn't here any noise even if a gun was shot. They're bullet proof too. Considering who he was, this villa was built with his safety in mind"
He paused.
"We didn't hear any noise. I only noticed that she was fuming in rage when she walked in. Paige has always been like that. Since she was very young. She has anger issues. She never respected our boss yet he tries all his possible best to satisfy her."
"Well, I digressed. One of us, Jeff hike walking around noticed blood seep from this door and he called our attention to it. Before w we could act, the police were already at the door. She called the police herself."
He stopped for a while as if observing a moment of silence over his past pain.
"I personally guessed immediately that she had taken some drugsbthat day. We would not be surprised if Paige Kam was into drugs. She's a college student and she barely sleeps here. The last time I checked she spent most her nights in stripping clubs. "
"I'm surprised that you are defending this case. You don't know the criminal you are trying to defend. It's a lost cause. Her own character would speak for itself and I swear, she will rot in jail."
"Thanks a lot, Baker."
"You don't need to thank me. I'm only giving you a piece of advise. As a lawyer, be sure to know your clients before going off to defend them. My boss is an innocent man. And he does not deserve to die that way without justice. Be it his niece or not."
"That's true. I have to go now. Thanks for sharing those things with me. I really appreciate."
"It's all good. This way."
He led me out.
My guts were screaming at me. "Get out of this unholy place now!"
And I obeyed immediately. Who knows?...
