Chapter 28

I was angry, very angry. I was wondering if I'm here to train or die. Really, with the way things are, I might have trusted my enemy too much. He might be here for a mission.

"you are here to train, not to think. Focus Katrienair. "

"I wasn't thinking! " I countered. I just felt tired—fed up of everything. I don't deserve this kind of treatment from him. He's supposed to be my comforter.

" You were lost in thought about your past. " He chuckled —an evil chuckle to me. " You can't lie to Katrienair. "

I sighed. " I still haven't gotten who you are. " I paused. " And even if I was thinking, you planned to kill me right? "

Really I was upset with this man. Who is he? He just came into my life and changed everything all of a sudden. Who is he?! Why is he here with me?!

" I will kill you if I want to. " He said tactlessly. " I warned that you should always be focused. Forget your past for now. It had nothing to do with your future. Focus on the future cause it's more eventful and you need to be prepared. "

" You know what? Kill me now okay. "I said without thinking. I was fed up really.

" You will die when the time comes. I will not have a hand in it then. " He walked closer to me, his staff in his hand.

" Katrienair, look. What do you see? "

The question made no sense to me.

" I can see rooftops... "I licked my broken lip in shame. Somehow, I felt I was not saying what he wanted to hear. Yes, I've never done that.

He shook his head. " Since you are not ordinary, you should not see rooftops only. Look deeply, observe. I'm not asking for a quick answer. You are more than human so see beyond the human eye. "

So I inhaled and exhaled, blinked my eye continually before focusing. And I saw it. There were more to it than rooftops. There was smoke coming from those houses, looked like they were being burnt. There was no human remaining but burnt houses and... Destruction—that's what I see. Yes, destruction or something worse.

" Massive destruction, like there's a kind of war."

" A war. " He quoted me. "What does that mean to you? "

"There's a constant struggle for existence among beings. "

" Perfect! " He clapped. I was relieved a bit. " The world is waiting for you, Katrienair. The world is waiting for that one person that would bring peace between beings... "

Wait! Does that mean? Am I the one who will bring peace. I doubt that, my own life is complicated and I've not been able to settle it. How then can I save the world? I'm just a teenager.

"... For four years, you were under the earth, buried so you'll be able to come here alive. So you will be able to achieve your purpose. Has the world not waited enough? "

Four years? I was buried? How? Why? By who? Well, I've learnt not to ask him questions. Let me figure out myself. The last time I saw Sylvia, I was in an hospital. She said I had a damaged lungs. Maybe I died and I had to buried but why is Emiliar here? I was thinking but also watching his moves. I just can't afford to be caught off guard another time.

"You and your companions are taking things too slow... "

Wow! He's answering my thoughts.

My companions? How many are they? It's kind of better to keep my mouth shut and let him answer my thoughts if he wants to.

"... especially you Katrienair. Give your heart the chance to be trained into a warrior. "

A warrior? By heart or might? I thought.

"The heart of a warrior determines his might. Give your heart. You have a lot of battles ahead of you, even now. Your destiny depends on them. "

That left me a lot to think about.

"Today, you are training with all kind of weapons, starting with a spear. "

The world changed suddenly around me. I saw myself in a field. There was a stack of hay across the field with a small red stain in the center. It miles away from where I stood but the mark was visible enough. I felt like I was in a training field meant for millions of legion members. It's unfortunate I'm here alone.

"Hit the mark, Katrienair. " He gave me a spear. I examined the spear. It was made of finer quality than I'd ever seen, made of solid oak wrapped in its finest leather. My heart pounded as I stepped forward. It was a nearly impossible task but I just had to try. I've never used a spear but I've watched him use it the last time we met. I just hoped.

I closed my eyes, breathed deeply. I'm going to give this my all.

'the world is waiting for me '

Without hesitating, I opened my eyes, took some steps backward and hurled the spear. I held my breathe as I watched it sail.

«Please God. Not again. I've failed a lot during this training. Not anymore please »

The spear cut through the thick, dead silence and I thought about nothing but its movement. Then after an eternity, there came a sound, the undeniable sound of a spear point piercing hay. I didn't have to look. I knew it was a perfect strike. Well, I dared to look and I saw the spear right in the centre of the real mark. I felt relieved, excited but something kept on telling me that there was more. He grinned widely.

" I was right. " He said. "This is Katrienair. "

I blushed accepting that as a compliment but then the feeling that there was nothing to rejoice about got me and I had to put on my bland face back.

For heaven's sake, can't I just appreciate myself for being right for once? I screamed in my head.

He gave me a dagger and asked me to hit the target again.

The same way I did it and I wasn't surprised when it hit the target. I tried with all type of weapon available and it worked out. It was like I was born with this throwing skill as a perfect gift. I was happy, confident, proud of myself. Who would have thought that today's training won't be as messy as they usually are.
