Chapter 35

The water covered my entire body, making it hard to breathe, or open my eyes. After about ten seconds, though, after my entire hair and body and clothes were completely drenched, I blinked my eyes, getting prepared for the pain to come. But it didn't come.

I blinked, then looked up at the cauldron, wondering if it were completely empty. It was. I looked back down at myself, and saw I was drenched. But I was completely fine. Not an ounce of pain. Roger, suddenly realizing, stood in his chair, jaw dropping. He was clearly shocked. Abraim, too, turned and looked, his mouth open. The entire assembly, thousands of demons, all stood, and a gasps spread through the room. I could see that this was not the reaction they had been expecting. They were all dumbfounded. I also. What could have gone wrong?

Somehow, their water had not affected me. Maybe I am not a Demon after all? And definitely not an human too cause the water will burn through any skin.

I saw a chance.

While they all stood there, too shocked to react, I summoned all my strength and in one motion, I broke the chains and then took off at a sprint away from the assembly, in the direction of a side that had fewer demons. There was no other safe way to go since I was surrounded. I prayed I'd be able to bypass the few demons there before the whole assembly recovers from their shock.

I made it halfway across the room before anyone could get over their shock to react.

"Get her!" I finally heard the leader scream. And before I could think bodies were on me. How fast could demons be? I can't escape —just have to accept my little fate. I was taken back to the spot beneath the cauldron and chained with even more powerful metal. This time, I didn't try to struggle, it would be a waste of energy anyway.

" Who are you? Young lad, What coven do you belong? " Roger asked carefully. She's different, he's never in his thousands of years existing seen anyone that survived the Holy fire without even a scratch. Not a single scratch on her skin. It's more than surprising.

"I don't know what you are talking about. " I said frustrated. " I belong to no one. "

Roger sighed.

"What is your name? " He stared at her, hatred in his eyes. He hates it when people begin to seem powerful than he is. He was determined now to ensure she never survives. She'll have to die in anyway possible. She's a threat to his honour already.

" Katrienair Mitchell. I am Katrienair. "

" Are you sure you don't belong to any coven?" Roger asked infuriated.

" I belong to no one!" I yelled feeling powerful.

" Then who are you? What have you come to do? Who sent you?" It's a familiar question , one I've been asked over and over again since I began my new life underneath the earth and it's a shame I've not been able to give them answers. It's really a curse to lack the knowledge of one's self.

I looked around searching for a way to run. I stared at the faces scowling down at me. I saw a new sense of awe in their look, a sense of respect. I've just bathed with their holy water like it's a mere liquid.

' stupid set of delusional beings' I said in my mind. I scanned their faces, each of them. They were young men, not young but looking ageless. Demons are the most beautiful creatures on earth anyway. Then I saw a familiar face. Joel... yes ..Joel, he was sitting on a smaller stool right beside the throne were the leader sat. At first i thought it was an illusion, but really nothing about my life right now should be seen as a mere illusion. I knew It was he, it was Joel. How the hell did he get here? The last time i saw him, some time that looked like decades ago, he was at school, reading a book. He looked more like a man now . What is he doing here? He was sitting on a small stool by the leader, like a prince or something. I shared the thought out of my head immediately. No, it's not Joel.

" You cannot leave alive young lad. No one dares to spy on us and go scort free. No matter the powers you think you have."

Maybe this is it. Maybe this is the war my comforter has been training me for. But it's ridiculous, i have no weapon, the demons have weapons and fire and i'm totally outnumbered. I can't start a fight i can't finish

There are thousands of demons here. i just stood there hopeless. 'comforter, you'll have to forgive me. I can't fight here . I can't be as fearless as you taught. Maybe you should come now. Come help me please. '

Yes, I used ' maybe' cause I knew he won't come. He's promised that already.

"Cast her into the lake of fire!" Roger ordered and Julian objected immediately.

"No!" He shrieked. It's the first time he'd spoken a word since the interrogation began. He'd swallowed. Not anymore." She will not be cast in the lake of fire!"

His roar filled the room. Everyone turned to look at him surprised. How he dared talk back at the king, that could cause him some years imprisonment or some ounces of the Holy water. Roger glared at his son with a look of contempt and hatred.

Julian tried to explain to his father.

"it's not fair enough father. The young lady seem to be innocent of any crime. She might just be a lost immortal with potentials. "

I was stunned by the fact that someone, one of the demons was supporting me. I was more shocked to see that it was my Joel. Maybe, he's Joel but he just called the leader father, No, he's not Joel.

" Hand my wolf over to me! " I had to shout this. There was already a kind of chaos in the room and it was very noisy. If I'm going to die or live, I won't be leaving Luna behind.

"Quiet down brethren. " Roger finally spoke. " Hand over her wolf to her!" He ordered Abriam who threw Luna at me. Luna rubbed her face on mine and sat on my shoulder. At least, I was satisfied I had her back with me.

I watched as the leader argued fiercely with the man that looked like Joel and I prayed silently that he changed his mind. The lake of fire? That's a kind of death I can't survive no matter the power I have. The room was quiet, of course everyone was waiting for judgment.

And then suddenly Roger roared.

" The lake of fire i insist!!!"

Then I knew my death has come.
