Chapter 68

"She said I've met my mother before." Emiliar finally broke the silence that has enveloped us ever since Alistair left our midst. "But I don't think I have..."

" Forget it." I winced. "Forget whatever my sister said. You are thinking too much, that won't help. All these things will reveal themselves later." I was speaking from experience. I dragged her off her seat."let's go check what they're doing out there."

We hid behind the door. They were both talking. Alistair had her usual smile while he, his usual grin. She was wear some things on him. Alistair always had jewels to give. I was killing myself deep inside as I watched the both of them. Guilts? Yes. I've made a grave mistake by falling in love with a demon. I might end up just like my parents.

" Did you tell her about Joel and I?"I asked Emiliar who was rather lost in her own thoughts.

"Huh...you said?"She asked.

"Didn't I ask you to forget?"

"You know it's not that easy..."She hissed.

"Answer my question. Did you tell Alistair about Joel and I?"

" I did!"She smiled. Her mood suddenly changed and I was a bit proud of myself. "Eh en so what's up with you guys these days? I haven't had the chance to snoop"she laughed.

"What do you tell Alistair?"I wish she knew how serious I was about the whole thing.

"C'mon Katrienair, are you planning on hiding from your sister? You know she would know anything she wants to know even if you don't tell her. You don't need to hide. She's the best sister ever I must say, so why are you thinking too much?"

Oh now she's preaching to me.

"Whatever!" I walked out to meet Alistair and Julian who stopped their discussion on seeing me. Oh now who's hiding things?

"We'll be leaving now sis."I said to my sister. "I see you guys are getting along pretty well."

"Yh, take care Katrienair."Alistair embraced me. "I love you sis." She whispered to me. I didn't have the chance to speak, someone else joined the embrace from behind, Emiliar. She planted a kiss on my nape and whispered. "Don't tell me you're angry katty. She's the best sister in the world."

Alistair also kissed me and walked away towards Julian. I faced Emiliar.

"I can't be angry with you, never!"I caresses her cheek. When I turned i saw Alistair in a tight embrace with Julian on his horse. She was whispering some things in his ears. I was dead curious about what they were saying but I froze where I stood. Luna jumped on my shoulder and picked my face, she's consoling me, sweet girl.

I got on my horse, Alistair was done. We bid our last goodbyes.

"You guys should get in quick. It's not safe out here."I yelled as I set my horse in motion.

***

It was a long hard ride. We rode past cities, taverns, the woods, till night fell. I just followed the paths as my instincts leads. We finally stopped at an hillside to rest. It's dark already and we were glaringly exhausted. I have detatched the wagon from our horses and hid in a safe place during our journey cause I knew that would only add to our stress and we won't be needing it. I sat at the foot of the hill, Julian by my side, both of us examining our new environment. One day gone out of four and we haven't found anyone, I never thought it'd be this hard.

"Are you okay?"Julian asked. The thing is we haven't said anything serious since the journey began.

"Yeah, I am. Just exhausted."I forced on a smile to reassure him."Do you know where we are now? I mean this place. It doesn't look like people live here."

I can see hills and hills, the sound of beasts, tamed animals, birds, like a ranch or something.

He sighed. He looked more exhausted than I was and I hadn't cared. How silly?

"I'm sorry for..." I trailed off. "Bringing you into this. I never thought it'd be this hard."

In fact, this is just the beginning. I know that for sure.

"No no. It's nothing. I'm okay c'mon." He chuckled."This place, it's just like a dead end. I should have warned earlier. People don't live here. I mean it suffered severely from war and haven't been reconstructed ever since."

" Wow!"I gasped. "But my head can't decieve me. There should be at least somewhere we could spent the night."

That's more pressing. We need a place to spend the night because the cold out here is killing.

Julian stood up, Luna following suit. "We should go check for ourselves."

We ventured into the dark city. Just like he said, there were collapsed buildings all around, others burnt, all not habitable. After we have walked miles we saw smoke coming from a chimney of a small disheveled building. Who could deem it fit to live in this kind of place? After souch contemplations we decided to check on the person. It's the only hope we have walked n the middle of a void place.

I knocked on the old oak door, a young man probably on his late teens peeped from a little hole on the door. Fear written all over his face.

"Hello, we are from the castle."Julian showed him his badge through the hole. The door creaked open. The young boy, fell on his knees in a bow.

"Milord, I greet you Milord."

He must have seen the badge so we'll to know that he's a prince.

"Please come in" Julian entered and I and Luna trotted behind him.

"Pa, the prince is here!"He screamed and all the members of the family joined us in the living room. Each paying homage in every way they could. If I counted well, they were seven in number, six boys or men, and an old man being their father. I found myself wondering why they've chosen this place of all places to live.

"You're very welcome to my house my King."The old man said."Milady, we're indeed honored to have you here with us."

At last, someone noticed I existed.
