**Chapter 21: The Weakest Link**
Elias knew the only way to take down a king was to attack his pawns first. Vale may have been powerful, but even the strongest men had vulnerabilities. The trick was finding them.
Collins was already digging through old case files when Elias returned. "So, I did some looking," Collins said, tossing a folder onto the desk. "Vale's got a brother."
Elias raised a brow. "Didn't know he had family."
"That's because Vale keeps it quiet. Joseph Vale—runs a few legitimate businesses under his name. On paper, he's clean. Off paper… well, let's just say he's got a gambling problem."
Elias smirked. "And I'm guessing he's in debt to the wrong people?"
Collins nodded. "Big time. Word is, he's barely keeping his head above water. And if there's one thing we know about crime bosses, it's that they don't like liabilities."
Elias leaned back, considering. If Joseph was a liability, that meant Vale had two choices—bail him out or cut him loose. And if he was willing to cut his own brother loose, then that meant there was a chance to drive a wedge between them.
"Alright," Elias said, standing. "Let's pay Joseph a visit. See just how desperate he really is."
Collins sighed, grabbing his coat. "You know this is gonna end badly, right?"
Elias grinned. "It always does."
