Chapter 25 – Doubt Cleared

Sitting in the corner, Saeko turned at me and frowned. She approached me and sat right next to me, leaning forward worriedly.

"What's wrong, brother?"

"Nothing." I answered, "Just thinking about the future. Because we have some time to think calmly, I just realized how fucked our current situation is. With zombies filling the city, we won't survive for long."

I lied, but I did have some worries in my mind.

Upon reading that certain game's cursed company's name in the serum's description, I could only feel dread.

"What are you worried about?" She asked, placing her hand on my shoulder. "You know we can always count on each other."

She smiled reassuringly.

I looked at her, staring at her eyes. I saw trust, faith, and love in her eyes. Our faces slowly got closer and closer until our foreheads touched. Then, our lips met in a kiss.

Saeko pushed me down, making me fall on my back. She attacked my mouth, her tongue exploring every inch of my mouth. I responded by kissing her back, our tongues entangled and fought for dominance.

After a few seconds, we broke apart and Saeko stared at me with a lustful look on her face. She was panting heavily, her chest heaving up and down.

I licked my lips, tasting her saliva on them.

"Brother." She whispered, "Stepmother leave you to me. I don't know what father told you about that secret information, but... I will always be by your side. No matter what."

"Sis..." I muttered.

She smiled and stood up, fixing her hair and clothes.

"Zombies aren't a problem at all, but I'd like it if we can live in peace." She said, "So please, don't make a decision without consulting me. We can think of it together."

"Alright. We're siblings, right? I won't do anything stupid." I said with a grin.

She smiled and walked out of the room, leaving me alone.

I stared at the door, wondering what I should do next. I had to think about the future, about our safety.

And then, I looked at the zombie serum in the system shop again. Maybe the shop only used its name and the corporation didn't exactly exist in this world. I had never heard of this name in the news, after all.

'But if this serum is created by that Umbrella Corp, will I be able to get stronger and immune to zombie viruses like Alice? T-Virus... Yeah, right.'

I chuckled.

'It's probably just a joke. The system is unreliable, so I can't trust any description in the shop either.'

Maybe I was just overthinking it.

For now, I had to focus on surviving the zombie apocalypse and tomorrow's mission. Scouting the water treatment plant was dangerous enough as it was, and I had to prepare myself for it.

I opened the system again and checked on the items.

'I guess I will need a few more flashbangs and arrows for the crossbow. Using the guns would be too dangerous outside the base, seeing what happened before, I should only use the gun in an emergency.'

The shop's search feature was useful, I had to say. I could type what I wanted and it would appear on the screen. I searched for flashbangs and a set of twenty bolts appeared on the list.

The price was 25 and 20 points, respectively. Once I bought them, they appeared in my hand from thin air.

Compared to bullets, the bolts were more expensive. However, they were quieter and reusable, so I needed them.

'I can carry them in the quiver. And with the vest I found in Miss Rika's house, I can holster the handgun I took from the police as well as the two flashbangs I have.'

The pistol I took from the police was a standard Smith & Wesson M37, a round pistol with 5 x .38 caliber rounds.

My M1A1 only had 1x20 magazines left. I had to buy some bullets, but I wouldn't be able to explain where I got them from.

'Let's wait until I reach home. I can always buy in bulk and say I have stocked them in the past.'

I decided to save my points for now. I was afraid of using the rifle in the open, so the sword and crossbow would be the weapon of choice. The M1A1 was for the last resort.

After I put all the items I bought inside the duffel bag I found in the room, I lay down on the bed.

Later, I would take the crossbow from the humvee and prepare it. I was too tired, so I closed my eyes and slept.

I didn't know how long I had slept, but I was woken up by someone shaking my shoulder.

"Brother. It's time to eat." Saeko said with a smile.

When I opened my eyes again and looked at the window, the sky had turned dark already.

'I guess I fell asleep.' I thought, standing up and stretching my body.

Looking down, I saw that Saeko had taken off my clothes and dressed me in a traditional Japanese kimono. I didn't even notice that, showing how tired I was.

She also wore a kimono. Purple robe hugged her slim and well-endowed body, accentuating her curves and giving off a mature aura.

"Thanks. Let's go." I said.

I followed Saeko to the dining room where everyone was waiting for us.

When I meant everyone, I just meant the Takagi family and us. The protagonist or the fatty Kohta weren't around. They were probably still sleeping or busy with their own thing.

Or maybe they weren't even invited here.

"Sit down, Busujima Daiki." Don Takagi Souichirou said, looking at me.

I nodded and sat down beside Saeko.

"Thank you for your hospitality, sir." I said.

"Hmph. You're a guest here, so don't worry about it." He replied, "I invited you because I have something to talk about."

He was straight to the point.

"Is it about tomorrow?" I asked.

"Indeed. I would like to know if you are ready for the scout mission tomorrow." He said, "We are going to a water treatment plant near the mountain and we need to know if it is safe or not."

"I just need to prepare something a little bit in the humvee we came in. After that, I will be ready." I replied.

"Good. I have already asked Saya and her friends to join us. We are going to meet at the front gate at 6 AM." He said.

"I understand."

"Now then, let's eat." Miss Yuriko said, smiling brightly, "The food is getting cold."

We ate the food and continued chatting.

The topic was mostly about zombies. Don Takagi Souichiro seemed to have some kind of plan moving forward, advised by his genius wife and daughter.

They were talking about how they would deal with the zombies and how they would survive this disaster.

Saya was unexpectedly silent, only blushing slightly when her father praised her.

I didn't participate much, only listening to them as they were the leaders of this place. I also already had a plan on my own, so I had nothing to worry about.

I looked at Saeko, who was sitting next to me.

She seemed to be enjoying the meal. Her eyes shone with excitement when she saw the delicious dishes.

After dinner, I went to the humvee and talked with Miss Shizuka. Then, I took the crossbow, quiver, and the bolts inside.

"Fufufu, I will drive so there is no need to worry. This pistol is enough to defend myself." She said so after I apologized for taking back the weapon I gave her.

I felt reassured, knowing that she could defend herself.

After that, I went back to the mansion. I passed through a few people on my way back. They stared at me, but I ignored them and continued on my way.
