chapter eight

Caspian Voretti's POV

The next day was a blur of needles and cold hands.

They kept drawing my blood, running endless tests, taking samples as if I were some rare creature they could dissect.

I let them. For now.

But the more they took, the more restless my wolf became. The more my fury built.

By the time my doctor entered the room, my patience was razor-thin.

He glanced around cautiously before stepping closer.

"They have your sister," he murmured, his voice barely above a whisper.

I went still.

My sister.

"Where?" My voice came out low, dangerous.

"She's being held in a secret laboratory in Raventhorn Facility. It's an underground sector high security. We need to act fast. They've been testing her for weeks, and if they don't get what they want soon… they'll kill her."

A growl rumbled deep in my chest.

If they touched her if they so much as hurt a single strand of her hair—

Blood would spill.

"When do we go?" I demanded.

The doctor hesitated. "We can move soon, but—"

"My mate," I cut in. "What about Nikolas?"

His expression darkened.

"You can take your sister first," he said carefully.

No.

I shook my head.

"I won't leave him." My voice was sharp, final. "I will take them both."

The doctor frowned. "Caspian, that's too dangerous. You could find another way to get Nikolas out later. Your sister she's running out of time. If we go for both, we risk losing everything."

I clenched my fists.

"I won't leave him."

The doctor exhaled, running a hand through his hair.

"Caspian, Nikolas won't just follow you. You know that, right? He'll resist with everything he has. He's not like us."

"I don't care."

The doctor's jaw tightened.

"And there's something else. His uncle runs this place."

I froze.

"What?"

The doctor nodded grimly.

"Nikolas isn't just some random nurse, Caspian. He's the son of one of the strongest hunters to ever live. His uncle took over after his father died. If you take Nikolas, you'll be declaring war on this entire facility."

I already planned to burn this place to the ground.

"It's too risky," the doctor continued. "His family will hunt him down. They won't let him go that easily."

I met his gaze.

Unyielding. Unshaken.

"It is final," I said coldly.

"I take my mate with me."

The doctor left, his face still tight with worry. He thought I was reckless. Maybe I was. But I wasn't changing my mind.

As soon as the door clicked shut, another figure stepped in.

Nikolas.

He entered with a soft smile, his hands carrying a small tray of fruit. But I barely noticed the food.

I was too focused on him.

His smile, the way his dimples deepened when he grinned gods, I was lucky.

How could something so pure exist in a place like this?

He walked closer, offering the fruit. I took it without hesitation, my fingers brushing against his. A jolt of warmth shot through me, but I ignored it, watching as his gaze flickered over my wounds.

Then his fingers traced my skin.

A simple touch, but my body went rigid. Restless.

I clenched my jaw, forcing my wolf down.

"How do you feel?" he asked.

I gave him a look, one brow raised.

"I mean… I'm chained up here," I said dryly.

His lips pressed together, guilt flashing in his eyes. "I wish I could make it less uncomfortable," he muttered, voice so low I barely caught it.

You could release me.

The words left my mouth before I could stop them. "Unchain me. Let me move around."

Nikolas stiffened.

"I… I can't," he said hesitantly.

A growl rumbled in my chest. Not because I was angry at him because my wolf hated the word "no."

Nikolas stepped back, his eyes widening slightly. Fear.

Shit.

I closed my eyes, inhaling sharply. I forgot he was human. They weren't built like us. They had softer hearts, easier to scare.

"I'm sorry," I said, my voice lower this time. "It's just that… when the guard came earlier to check on me, he let me move around. I liked it."

Nikolas frowned slightly. "A guard let you go?"

I caught something in his voice. Jealousy.

Oh, my baby.

I smirked. "Yeah. Tony."

Nikolas' jaw clenched. He didn't like that.

Before I could tease him further, he moved. Fast.

His fingers fumbled with the locks, unchaining me before he could change his mind.

The moment the restraints fell, I stood, stretching my limbs. Relief flooded through me.

But what caught my attention wasn't the freedom.

It was Nikolas.

The way he looked up at me, uncertainty in his gaze.

The way his scent wrapped around me, making my wolf purr with satisfaction.

He had no idea.

No idea that he was mine.

Nikolas watched me cautiously, his eyes flicking between my hands and my face as if expecting me to pounce.

I wasn't that impatient.

But I did move closer.

He took a step back. Then another.

Until—

His back hit the wall.

I smiled. Trapped.

I could hear the way his breathing changed, slightly uneven. His heart beat faster not in fear this time, but in something else. Something deeper.

I leaned in slowly, my lips brushing against his. Soft. Warmer than I imagined.

Then, I teased him letting my lips trail lower, catching the shell of his ear between my teeth. I bit down, just enough to make him feel it.

He moaned.

The sound was soft, but I heard it.

Nikolas' eyes widened, like he hadn't expected his own reaction.

Oh, baby.

I grinned, my breath hot against his skin.

"Wait till we get home," I whispered. "I'll make you moan more than this."

His throat bobbed, his fingers twitching at his sides.

"I'll make you speak a language you don't even know," I continued, my voice dropping lower. "With you beneath me… wet, breathing heavily, panting, and coming so hard you'll forget your own name."

His breath hitched.

I knew he felt the heat, the pull. Even if he didn't understand it yet.

For now.

I stepped back, smirking at the way his chest rose and fell too quickly.

He swallowed, trying to recover. Adorable.

We kept talking, but I saw the way he kept sneaking glances at my mouth.

Good.

Because this was just the beginning.
