ch8 [A unexpected Proposal.]

"So, Mark…" she began , her voice now softer, almost playful, "if you want to be the right per...., l know we haven't known each other for very long, but… would you be my boyfriend?"

Mark froze. His brain stopped functioning for a moment. The entire world seemed to pause, the sound of the bustling café around him going silent. His stomach flipped, and a cold rush of panic washed over him. He blinked, his heart pounding loudly in his chest. Did she just say… what he thought she said?

His breath caught in his throat, and he found himself unable to speak for several moments, his mind trying to catch up wit what had just happened. His eyes darted to hers, looking for any sign that she was joking, but there was none. She was looking at him with that same curious intensity, her lips barely curving into a hint of a smile, but there was something deeper there—a sincerity, a vulnerability he hadn't expected.

"Wait," Mark finally managed, his voice low and a little shaky. "What? You… you want to me to be your boyfriend?"

The words felt heavy on his tongue, as if they didn't belong. It didn't make sense. They had met only yesterday. He didn't know her favorite color. He didn't know what made her laugh the hardest or what her dreams were. He didn't even know the smallest details about her life. They hadn't even exchanged names before she said something as monumental as that.

The girl's face immediately flushed with embarrassment, and she looked down at her coffee cup, her fingers nervously twisting it around. She hadn't expected that kind of reaction, clearly. "Oh my God, I'm so sorry," she muttered, her voice quiet now, almost regretful. "I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable. I was just being… impulsive, I guess."

Mark still sat there, processing the words that had been thrown at him like a tidal wave. His mind was swirling, a mixture of disbelief, confusion, and a strange curiosity. Why would she say something like that? Was she being serious? Or was this just some sort of test, a joke? A test of what, though? His sense of humor? His ability to take things lightly?

Mark blinked, still processing the words that had just been thrown at him. "Wait, you want me to be your boyfriend?" The girl with blue eyes smiled nervously, still a little embarrassed. "Oh, right. I guess I should have started with that, huh? I'm Emma, by the way."

"I… I don't understand," Mark said slowly, his mind still trying to piece together the situation. "Why would you… why would you say that? I mean, we've just met. Yesterday, even. We don't even know each other's names properly."

The girl's blue eyes widened as she realized how her words had sounded. She quickly waved her hand in front of her face, a gesture that was meant to reassure him. "Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry, i should have tell you befor my name is emma" she said again, her voice soft but laced with an edge of panic. "I didn't mean to say it like that. It just… came out. It was a joke. Or maybe it was more of a thought that I was just throwing out there. I'm not really good with, um, pacing things."

Mark stared at her for a few seconds, still processing what she had said. His heart rate was beginning to slow now, though he was still struggling to reconcile her boldness with the lightness of their earlier conversation. "So… you were joking?" he asked carefully.

The girl with blue eyes looked up at him then, a small smile playing on her lips, but it was the kind of smile that held a mixture of regret and embarrassment. "Well, kind of. I mean, maybe I was being too eager, I guess. It's just… sometimes when I feel something, I feel like I have to say it right away. I don't like waiting around for things. And honestly, I really like you, Mark. I didn't think it would come out like that. I promise I wasn't trying to make you uncomfortable."

Mark's chest tightened. The honesty in her voice, the raw vulnerability she had just laid bare, made him feel something he hadn't expected. He felt an odd sense of compassion for her. She wasn't hiding behind walls. She wasn't pretending. She was just… being herself. And there was something so disarming about that.

He chuckled softly, running a hand through his hair. "You're… really something, aren't you?"

The girl with blue eyes smile deepened at that, though there was still a nervous edge to her expression. "I know. I'm kind of an open book, aren't I? I guess I'm a bit of an impulsive person. It's just that when I meet someone I like, I can't help but get excited. I'm not the type to wait around for the 'perfect moment.' I just… jump right in. And maybe that's not always the best idea."

Mark found himself smiling, despite himself. "No, it's not bad. Just… unexpected, that's all." His gaze softened as he watched her. "I guess I didn't expect you to be so… open. It's refreshing, actually."

The girl with blue eyes looked up, her eyes locking with his, and for a moment, the world outside the café seemed to disappear. Her vulnerability, her honesty—it was all so real, so raw. Mark had never met anyone like her before. The intensity in her gaze made his heart skip a beat, and the connection between them, though brief, felt stronger than anything he had ever experienced.

"So," Mark said, after a long pause, "what was that about marriage again? You're just throwing it out there for fun, right?"

The girl laughed, her shoulders relaxing as the tension between them finally began to dissipate. "Yeah, I guess that was a little too much," she admitted. "But I meant it in a lighthearted way. I just wanted to see if you'd be up for something crazy, I guess. I don't know… I like the idea of being spontaneous. Of not overthinking everything."

Mark nodded slowly, his heart warming at her honesty. There was something so captivating about the way she lived in the moment, how she let her heart guide her instead of overanalyzing every detail. It was like a breath of fresh air in his life, something he didn't realize he needed until now.

"Spontaneous, huh?" Mark said with a small grin. "I'm not exactly used to that, but maybe I could get used to it."

The girl with blue eyes smiled brightly, her earlier awkwardness fading away. "I'm glad to hear that." She leaned forward slightly, her eyes sparkling. "I guess we can start slow, though. How about we just take it one step at a time? No more proposals. Not for now, anyway."

Mark laughed softly, the tension finally leaving him. "I think I'm okay with that."

Girl's eyes softened, and for a moment, they just sat there in silence, the sound of their breathing mixing with the quiet hum of the café around them. The atmosphere felt comfortable now, more relaxed than before. It was as though they had both just admitted something unspoken, something raw and real, and the honesty between them was something neither of them could ignore.

"I'm sorry again," the girl said softly after a beat, her voice carrying an air of sincerity. "I don't want to rush things. I just… I really like you, Mark. I want to get to know you. If you want to take it slow i will too, but not too slow, you know?"

Her eyes glistened, a smile breaking across her face. "Deal," she said.
