"Father, you have already lost."
Uchiha Itachi's eyes flashed with a trace of joy as he saw Sarutobi Hiruzen approaching. It seemed that the war in Konoha was nearing its end. But then, he felt a wave of sadness. It wasn't because of the death of his parents or the destruction of the Uchiha clan—it was because of Konoha's loss. He wasn't sure how this would affect Sasuke, but one thing was clear: Konoha was in turmoil.
Yet, despite everything, Itachi was still Uchiha Itachi of Konoha.
Uchiha Fugaku glared at his son with fury. If Itachi had been willing to join him, the outcome of this battle could have been different. He regretted ever having such a son—he believed Itachi was the sinner of the Uchiha clan. Fugaku had even considered sacrificing the entire Uchiha clan just to ensure the survival of Itachi and Sasuke. But the people Itachi had allied with, like Obito, were unreliable, and they could easily have turned on him. Resistance was inevitable.
As for cooperating with Konoha, Fugaku hesitated before ultimately deciding against it. The clan would never agree.
"Even if we die, the Uchiha clan will never be bullied!" Fugaku gritted his teeth, his anger flaring. He wasn't a good father, nor a great clan leader, but he had to fight back. "It seems that the battle is almost over," he muttered under his breath.
At this point, Smith appeared on the scene. He was holding Sasuke in his arms, the child visibly panicked. Sarutobi Hiruzen had entrusted Sasuke to Smith, likely worried that Uchiha Itachi might betray him. But Smith knew Itachi would never betray Konoha at this point.
As for which was more important to Itachi—Sasuke or Konoha—Smith found that to be a complicated question. In his opinion, Konoha should be more important. Itachi, however, might view Sasuke as the priority. Itachi's decision to give Naruto the Eye of Kotoamatsukami and influence Sasuke's loyalty to Konoha was evidence of that. But Smith believed that Konoha was more important to Itachi. After all, Itachi wouldn't have made such a sacrifice if his loyalty to the village hadn't been paramount.
Itachi had always placed his village above personal feelings, but that didn't mean he didn't care about Sasuke. In fact, he had sacrificed everything to keep Sasuke from falling into darkness, even if it meant manipulating him. Sasuke had always been the key to Itachi's heart, even if the older brother's methods were complicated and morally questionable.
"Sasuke..." Itachi muttered quietly as he saw his younger brother being held by someone unknown. At this moment, Sasuke felt a swirl of confusion. The village had decided to destroy the Uchiha clan, the Uchiha clan had chosen to rebel, and now his brother was fighting against their father. This was all too much for Sasuke to comprehend.
"Sasuke, why did you do this?" he wondered. "Why are you fighting against our family?"
It was a question Sasuke didn't have the answer to.
"Uchiha Fugaku," Smith's deep voice interrupted the tense silence. "The Uchiha clan is now weakened—there are only old, sick, and disabled members left. If they stay in Konoha, they will be eradicated. But I can take them all and offer them a chance to work for me."
Smith's words were direct and decisive. "In my lands, the Uchiha clan will not be discriminated against. Even ordinary Uchiha can integrate into society and live normal lives. So, I ask you: are you willing to leave Konoha behind?"
Uchiha Fugaku remained silent. If the Uchiha clan stayed in Konoha, annihilation was certain. But perhaps, if they left, they would still have a chance.
"This time, I come with sincerity." Smith raised a foot, and with a simple tap, Danzo Shimura began to rise slowly from the ground.
Itachi's attention snapped back to the situation. Had Smith captured Danzo? But judging by the Hokage's calm demeanor, he didn't seem to care.
"Danzo Shimura!" Uchiha Fugaku's voice turned cold and filled with disgust at the sight of Danzo. He realized that Smith wasn't allied with Konoha. Sarutobi Hiruzen, his old friend, seemed to have compromised with someone who had his own agenda.
"Will the Uchiha clan truly not be destroyed if we follow you?" Fugaku asked, his voice heavy with doubt.
"The Uchiha clan has its own problems," Smith replied confidently. "Almost all of you face mental instability after awakening your Sharingan. But I'm confident I can control and suppress it. When Hashirama Senju was alive, the Uchiha clan was relatively stable, weren't they? It's only the weak who need to control the Uchiha."
Smith continued arrogantly, "I can guarantee that you'll survive and live a good life under my protection. You don't need to worry about me coveting your Sharingan—I have no interest in turning myself into a monster. No one in my domain will experiment on you. Just abide by the rules, and you'll be treated fairly. If anyone causes trouble, I'm confident I can handle it. And remember, there are people in my domain who are far stronger than you."
Smith's words seemed to have an undeniable weight to them. He was not just offering them a chance to survive—he was offering them a new life, free from the discrimination they had faced for so long. "Are you kidding?" Smith continued, his tone mocking. "Is your home the birthplace of the Sage of the Six Paths?"
Without further warning, Smith kicked Danzo Shimura toward Uchiha Fugaku. Fugaku hesitated for a moment, then activated his Susanoo, using the massive construct to crush Danzo into pieces.
Looking up at Smith, Fugaku finally spoke, his voice low but resolute: "The Uchiha clan is willing to serve others."
"Very good," Smith replied with a satisfied nod. "Follow me and gather the remaining members. From what I know, there are less than a hundred Uchiha left, most of them elderly, women, and children. There are fewer than ten capable fighters."
These words hit everyone like a ton of bricks. The once-great Uchiha clan was now reduced to nothing more than a shadow of its former self.
Smith looked around at his companions. "I'm fine here. What about you guys?"
Hu Tao spoke up first: "I've found the Book of Seals, and I met Uzumaki Kushina. She helped me unlock it, but she died afterward. I took Uzumaki Naruto with me."
Nashida added, "I've controlled the Nine-Tails."
Xiao chimed in, "All those who were destroying Konoha have already evacuated. Those who didn't evacuate are dead. Once the Uchiha clan's problem is solved, our mission will be complete."
Ganyu spoke last: "I've gathered people, but they don't believe me."
"It's fine," Smith reassured her. "Just leave it to Uchiha Fugaku."
It was clear that with Fugaku taking the lead, the remaining Uchiha had no choice but to leave with Smith. There was no hope for them to stay in Konoha. On the other hand, Uchiha Itachi found himself in a difficult position. He could not leave with Smith, but he could not remain in Konoha either.
