Conversation With Mom And Dad
It was around 7 pm when Ada heard a horn outside the compound, signifying that Mom and Dad were back from their place of work. Amaka came downstairs to greet her parents, which had been rare since the last incident with her parents. She greeted them as they came inside the house and even took Dad's briefcase from him. Her parents seemed surprised by her attitude but didn't change their attitude. They asked her how she was and walked into their room. She followed her parents inside their room, trying to talk them into a conversation.
"Mom, can you imagine what I encountered today?" "What's that?" her Mom asked as she sat on the couch inside the room, trying to arrange her files and laptop inside the small cabinet close to the bed. Amaka sat on the bed as she explained how she met Denis and how he was being neglected and affected by his parents' attitude. She rounded off the conversation with a question: "But Mom, Dad, why is it that parents of these days seem to be unaffected by how their behavior affects their kids?"
"Hmmm, Amaka, my child, come closer," Mom said as she wrapped her hand around her shoulder. "The incident with Denis is not what you should just run into conclusions with because you don't know what really transpired between his both parents. And secondly, even if his dad did hit his mom, she must have reacted in a way that made him go to that extent." "Really, Mom? But she is pregnant. Mom, can that not be enough reason for him to pardon her despite how she behaves?"
At this point, Dad chipped in, "Amaka, most times you don't just conclude, my dear. I'm a man, daughter. Before a man could lay his hands on a pregnant woman, something must have compelled him to. And about pardoning her because of her situation, you know most people are quite quick to anger, but one thing you should know is that the man must be regretting it now." Her Dad concluded.
"Okay, Dad, thanks for the explanation, Daddy. It's actually two questions. Okay, I'm all ears," Ami's Dad replied. "Why is it that parents seem to be unaffected by the way their attitude affects their children?" "About that, daughter, sometimes what we parents do aren't always our fault. And secondly, most of the things we do are not always a big deal, but your brain, due to the fact that you're teenagers, seems to assimilate things the wrong way."
"Dad, teenagers, does that mean due to the fact that we are teenagers, our sense of reasoning seems to be different from that of others? Please, is that what you mean?" "No, my dear, that's not what I mean. What I mean is that at the age you are in right now, you seem to understand everything happening around you in the wrong way," her Mom contributed.
"But Dad, these incidents seem to affect us a lot, like my relationship with Auntie Bella and the rest. Daddy, do you think because we are teenagers, we deserve to be affected by negative energies?" Amaka was surprised at how the conversation with her parents was going smoothly, despite how their last conversation went.
"Well, about your relationship with your auntie," Dad started, "like I said that day, Bella, your auntie, has been a very important part since your birth. She has literally played a motherly role since your Mom and I became too busy with work. So, the thing is, I don't really know how or what is wrong with your relationship with her, but I'll advise you both to try being on good terms with your auntie." "What your Dad is saying is true, dear. No matter how she behaves with you, try being nice with her, dear. With time, your relationship with her will get straightened." Amaka took a deep sigh and said, "Okay.
