Now married to Caelan, my shame would be his shame too.

I asked in a clear voice, "Damien, in all these years, have I ever said I liked you?"

Damien was stumped by my question, unable to answer.

Because I had never said it.

"No, I never have," I answered for Damien. "All those words about liking you, fawning over you - those were all your own imagination. I don't like you. I never have."

The color drained from Damien's face in an instant.

"I stayed by your side because your family helped mine. It's been seven years, and I believe I've more than repaid that debt. Now that I'm married, I hope you won't come around to bother me anymore."

I gave a polite smile. "I hear Miss Everhart is pregnant. Since I'm getting married today, I might as well wish you and Miss Everhart a lifetime of happiness together."

Damien looked at me, his face ashen. "You're lying, Melody. I don't believe you don't like me. You clearly..."

He was dragged out by the security guards.
