Chapter 3

"Melody! You killed my Meadow, and then went to great lengths to marry into the Langdon family. Are you satisfied now?"

"Meadow always said you were a kind-hearted, good girl. But from where I'm standing, there's no woman more vicious than you in this world!"

"Since you were so desperate to marry me, then as your husband, I'll make sure every day you spend in the Langdon family is a living hell!"

But she actually died in a car accident while fleeing, worried that her impersonation of me would be exposed!

I wanted to explain, but the man opposite me lunged forward with a vengeance.

As the moment approached, Langdon grabbed my hair and smashed my head against the headboard, all while repeatedly calling out "Meadow."

My best friend once told me that being intimate with the man you love is the happiest thing in the world.

But at that moment, the stinging pain on my face and the intense tearing sensation below seemed insignificant compared to the despair in my heart.

......

As the memories faded, my consciousness grew hazier, and my body felt heavier. An overwhelming sense of exhaustion enveloped me.

It was then that I realized, perhaps I was the one who needed to let go all along.I woke up to find myself in the hospital, brought there by my best friend.

Tears streaming down her face, she spoke in broken sentences: "You scared me to death, Melody. Thank God my phone is linked to your health status. That heartless bastard Langdon, doesn't he know you're pregnant?"

I weakly replied, "He doesn't know yet."

The doctor beside us looked serious as he examined my test results, saying, "Miss Carlisle! This is your third miscarriage. Are you trying to kill yourself?"

"When you came to the hospital after your second miscarriage, I warned you not to play with your health like this. Did you not listen to a word I said?"

So, it seems I've lost the chance to become a mother for the third time.

When was the second miscarriage?

Oh, I remember now. It was when Langdon had that car accident.

During that time, I was running back and forth between home and the hospital every day. By the time I realized something was wrong with my body, the doctor told me the baby was already gone.

That child came at an inconvenient time. I honestly couldn't focus on it, so maybe losing it was for the best. After my hysterectomy, I couldn't even rest because I was so worried about Langdon. I rushed straight to his hospital room to take care of him.

But when he woke up and didn't see me there immediately, he flew into a rage: "Melody! Your husband is lying in a hospital bed, and you're out there fooling around? I really underestimated how wicked you are!"

"Are you wishing I'd get in a car accident and die right now? Well, let me tell you, don't even think about it! You'll never be rid of me in this lifetime. All the pain Meadow went through, I'm going to make you feel it bit by bit!"
