Minami's message brought Luther a pleasant surprise. The testing of Mismagius's 'Black Hole' Move indicated that it had no significant burden on Mismagius, who had successfully mastered the Move under the guidance of doctors and breeders.
Minami sent several videos showing the effects of Mismagius's 'Black Hole' on various Types of Pokémon. One of the videos depicted a scene where doctors and breeders encouraged Mismagius to unleash 'Black Hole', resulting in a floor covered with sleeping Pokémon.
The effects were there, but unfortunately, Mismagius's control over the Move was poor, unable to produce a stronger sleeping effect.
The Pokémon doctor and breeder hired by Diantha stated that if a Darkrai could assist, Mismagius would likely be able to perform the Move better.
Asking for Darkrai... it's really surprising they would suggest that. Where would Luther find one?
However, as long as he knew that Mismagius's body had no significant aftereffects and that using 'Black Hole' wouldn't lead to unimaginable consequences, and it wouldn't cause major issues like the Hippopotas Diantha had seen, Luther was quite satisfied.
Mai seemed not to have stayed up all night. Accompanying Gardenia to catch Breloom left her feeling drowsy all day. After dinner, she hurriedly took a shower and even declined Luther's request to go for a night run, collapsing onto the bed and falling fast asleep.
Eevee seemed very interested in the night run, wagging its tail and following Luther out.
The running route was the same one Diantha had led him on that night. Eevee had a good pace and ran two laps with Luther, still full of energy.
Chansey, however, struggled to keep up. Although the Pokédex stated that she could burst forth with incredible speed when protecting her egg, that was only for a short time. To help Chansey build her endurance, Luther patiently adjusted his pace to keep her moving steadily.
Luther stopped by the roadside to help Chansey wipe the sweat off her body when his phone in his pocket vibrated several times.
It was quite late, and Diantha had sent a message. Oh... there was a time difference between Kanto and Sinnoh.
"I bought you a train ticket; we leave tomorrow morning."
The abrupt message left Luther a bit confused.
"What happened?" Luther sent a message, patiently waiting for a reply.
His phone rang, and the contact was Diantha.
"Breathing so heavily, are you on a night run?"
"Yeah... what place did you buy the ticket for? Are we leaving early tomorrow?" Luther couldn't help but ask.
After a moment of silence in response to Luther's question, Diantha asked, "Are there other people around you?"
"Are you talking about Mai? She's asleep."
Another silence followed, and Luther finally sensed something was off. He licked his dry lips and cautiously asked, "What happened? Is it related to me?"
"Your phobia stems from being ambushed by wild Pokémon when you were a child. Do you remember that ambush?"
Although Luther didn't understand why Diantha suddenly asked this, he still tried hard to recall.
Perhaps this memory had a significant impact on Luther; even after so many years, he still remembered most of the details.
"So, you were helping someone at the Pokémon Center feed Nidoran, and then you were ambushed by Nidorino and Beedrill? What did you use to feed Nidoran?"
"It seems... it was nectar?"
Luther was stunned, as if he had experienced a landslide in his mind, causing him to tremble all over.
On the other end of the phone, Diantha and Cynthia also closed their eyes.
"Nidorino is a rather reclusive Pokémon. Even if raised or bred, it will only allow familiar breeders to approach. The appearance of Nidoran and Nidorino together proves they are a couple, so Nidorino would think I invaded its living area..."
"That's unreasonable. What about Beedrill? How do you explain Beedrill? They are territorial Pokémon that only live in areas they have marked. How could it... absolutely impossible!"
Luther's muttering made Diantha's heart tighten. It seemed Luther had already understood what had happened, but what good was it to deceive himself?
"Have you never considered that the nectar was collected by that group of Beedrill? These territorial Pokémon are closely grouped in their breeding areas, and there's no reason to switch people to feed them. Moreover, I've never seen an experienced breeder put a group of territorial and ill-tempered Pokémon in close proximity unless they could knock out each Pokémon with a single punch."
Luther suddenly felt weak, as if his spine had been pulled out, and he slowly sat down on the ground, his eyes failing to find a focus for a long time.
"But he saved me..."
"Because he didn't want you to die. He just didn't want you to grow up without his control. He wanted to obtain the gifts your parents left for you," Diantha said. "Think about it, a phobia patient who despises contact with Pokémon would only curl up in that area of Ethan, giving him enough time to get everything he wants."
"Then why did he let me go!" Luther had lost the ability to think clearly. "This doesn't make sense; it doesn't add up."
A pair of sneakers appeared in front of Luther's eyes. Distracted, he hadn't even noticed someone approaching him.
With short silver-gray hair and dressed casually yet paired with dress pants, the woman had a well-proportioned figure. However, the evident fatigue, dark circles under her eyes, and crow's feet slightly marred her otherwise beautiful face.
"Nice to meet you. Let me introduce myself, I am the International Police Officer Oleander."
"Oh wow, the Deputy Minister of Safety seems to have some free time. When did you come from Kalos to Sinnoh?"
Hearing the teasing from the other end of the phone, Oleander simply smiled.
Luther had imagined many times what this woman, who had turned against him because of a phone call and had many ways of dealing with him, would look like. He never expected her to be anything but fierce and unpleasant; instead, she resembled a friendly neighbor.
"I'm here to answer your questions."
Oleander crouched down, her gaze calm and collected.
"On the night of the accident, your parents didn't have a single Pokémon with them. Aside from the Musharna, they had three Pokémon: a Seismitoad, a Wigglytuff, and an Amaura."
"These three Pokémon have been missing ever since. Also, your parents were carrying a document at the time of the accident... and that document is a fake."
Luther stared at Oleander in shock, slowly realizing the significance of the so-called document. He never imagined that the amplification device would be so intricately linked to his parents.
"How did you figure out it was a fake document? We agreed on sharing information, Oleander. Are you playing games with me?" Diantha's voice sounded slightly displeased over the phone.
"It wasn't discovered; it was more of a hunch, or rather, a deduction. I've always been quite accurate when it comes to these things."
"So, they believe I can somehow obtain the real document, or…"
"Or the document is in the possession of those three missing Pokémon." Oleander's gaze toward Luther was filled with a mix of envy and, more notably, jealousy.
"Parents' gifts always find their way to their children, even if they've already left this world."
