Chapter 21: Infernal Treaty

---

The world burned—again.

Kael stood before a vast wasteland, where melted buildings fused with scorched earth. Ash rained from the sky like snow. What remained of the old world had become a desolate ruin.

This was Pyraxis, once a classified research city. Now, it was the home of the Infernal Crucible, a dungeon twisted by fire, war, and forgotten gods.

Kael tightened the straps on his cloak.

Elena scanned the perimeter. "The air's toxic. Heat signatures are off the charts. And I'm detecting unstable mana pulses beneath the surface."

Greg wiped sweat from his brow. "And we're walking into that?"

Mira grinned. "Should've brought marshmallows."

Kael glanced at the sky—clouds shaped like screaming faces flickered in and out of reality.

"This is the fourth anchor. And the most dangerous."

---

Dungeon Mechanic: Infernal Pact

Pyraxis isn't just a battlefield—it's a negotiation chamber.

Before facing the dungeon boss, the party must make a deal with one of the Infernal Factions. The stronger the deal, the higher the risk… and the greater the reward.

As they entered the first sector, ghostly images played out in the scorched air—soldiers burning, scientists screaming, portals ripping open.

Kael's mind was already racing.

"Three factions," he muttered, opening a spectral map. "The Ashen Lords, the Ember Choir, and the Black Flame Syndicate."

Seraphina approached, her divine aura dimmed by the oppressive heat.

"Who do we trust?" she asked.

Kael's eyes hardened. "None of them."

---

The Ashen Lords – Trial of Pain

They first encountered the Ashen Lords in a shattered stadium. Charred warriors knelt in circles, blades sunk into their own chests.

Their leader, Lord Vaakar, stood ten feet tall, wrapped in blackened armor etched with fire-runes.

"Endure pain. Prove strength."

The challenge was brutal—each member had to fight a shadow version of themselves… with no magic, no support, no shortcuts.

Greg stepped into the circle. His shadow surged forward, mirroring every brutal punch and counter.

Elena dueled a silent, colder version of herself, every spell she cast reflected perfectly.

Mira danced with her darker instincts—every move, every flick of her blade judged.

Kael's battle was different.

His shadow didn't attack.

It spoke.

"You killed them all," it whispered. "You sacrificed friends, timelines, possibilities."

Kael didn't answer. He stepped forward, embracing the shadow.

"I'll carry the weight. Because I must."

The shadow vanished.

Lord Vaakar nodded. "Endurance accepted. Pact forged."

---

Infernal Pact Obtained – Ashen Brand

Grants fire resistance and access to Ashen Chains, a binding skill that limits movement of enemies by anchoring them in burning memories.

Downside: Prolonged use increases emotional numbness and may permanently reduce empathy.

Kael accepted the risk without hesitation.

"Three anchors broken. No time for guilt."

---

The Crucible – Anchor Guardian: Pyrelith, the Flame Warden

The final chamber was a ruined reactor core. Fire flowed like rivers through molten circuits. At the center stood Pyrelith, a serpentine titan made of living magma and gears.

[Pyrelith – Lv. ???]

Dungeon Type: Flame Construct / Guardian of Anchor

Abilities: Core Overheat, Molten Chain Storm, Solar Detonation

Elena winced as Pyrelith roared, distorting space.

"It's burning through mana itself. We can't cast near it!"

Kael narrowed his eyes. "Then we bait it into overload."

He activated Ego Fracture, summoning an alternate version of himself who used cold-based tactics.

Two Kaels now moved in harmony—one baiting Pyrelith with chained illusions, the other manipulating heat differentials to trap its movement.

Greg hurled a wrecked vehicle at Pyrelith's leg.

Seraphina reinforced their minds from burning hallucinations.

Mira struck the exposed gear nodes with anti-magic daggers.

Kael watched it all like a grand game board.

Then he saw it.

The moment of imbalance.

"Now!" he shouted. "Seraphina—purge field! Elena—coolant wave! Greg—overload shield! Mira—hit the core!"

All at once, they executed.

Pyrelith screamed.

Kael dashed in, Ashen Chains flaring, binding the titan's core with burning regret.

"Break," he whispered.

The anchor shattered with a shockwave that turned magma to steam.

Fourth Anchor Broken.

Post-Battle Fallout

Outside, the skies cleared briefly—flames retreating into rifts. The landscape cooled.

But not for long.

Kael staggered.

His hand—marked by four anchor shards—now pulsed uncontrollably. Veins of light ran up his arm, across his neck.

Mira caught him. "You're burning up."

Kael gritted his teeth. "No. It's the system. It knows we're close."

A voice echoed in the sky—metallic, amused.

"You continue to defy entropy. Interesting. The Genesis Prime welcomes your final confrontation."

Kael's eyes narrowed. "Let him watch. I'll burn his world too."
